I used to work at BRE many moons ago. I have some photos I took of the dam circa 2004. Just need to find them!

They are the original models & they were used in the Dam Busters film. When i enquired about them, I was told they are not in a very good state & are not able to be displayed.

I’m pretty sure the models held by the IWM were (are?) the original wartime scale models of the targets used to brief the crews before the Dams Raid itself, rather than brick or concrete ‘models’ used to test-fire scaled-down explosive charges against.

The Imperial War Museum has a similar model, or at least used to have one on display in the 70’s.

Reviving an old thread – The BRE (Building Research Establishment) was open on Saturday 9th 2017 as a part of the Heritage Open Days scheme.

Here is a link to their website, which explains their connection with the bouncing bomb experiments. Their work is not widely known.

I was working at The BRE at couple of years ago and it was still there.
No secret about seeing it, I used walk past it on my lunchtime walk. It’s in a little garden.

It is – I last saw it in the 1980’s on a trip to BRE Garston.

It’s at the building research establishment up bucknalls lane, when I worked for the royal snail I used to collect from there but was never allowed to go see it, it’s apparently in the woods out back overgrown.
