Scampton for 2017??

A Government minister has written to a Lincolnshire MP to confirm that RAF Scampton could host the county’s air show as early as 2017.

Lord Howe, the Minister of State for the Ministry of Defence, has written to Conservative MP, Sir Edward Leigh, to confirm that RAF Scampton could host the show following a letter from the Gainsborough politician.

It comes after RAF officials confirmed that Waddington would no longer host an air show in September.

Lord Howe, Minister of State for the Ministry of Defence, said: “Careful consideration has been given to an alternative venue in Lincolnshire which could host an annual RAF air show in future… there may be potential to hold an air show at RAF Scampton but this will not be possible until 2017 at the earliest.”

Those in the know are aware of what happens at Scampton, and in the words of a former station commander, it would cost millions to relocate whats there… try explaining that tl bean counters.

David

I get the feeling Scampton is safe at least as a result of the close it (in 1996/reopen it in 2000) oh lets close it again saga.

But then again nothing is concrete guaranteed? Although the RAF is rumoured to be a winner in this SDSR!!

Lets hope it goes ahead. The showground next door will be an advantage.
