Scampton Vulcan

Where the A15 road bends around the end of the runway at Scampton, for quite some time there was a Vulcan parked in this area which was quite clearly seen from the main road.
Please could anyone tell me which Vulcan this was.

there are pics online of her being pummeled to death by a JCB

Ahhh JCB ! The weapon of choice for most Vulcan destroyers and now the owner of it’s birthplace !

Vulcan XL384

Incidently, this Vulcan was used as a “Special Weapons” loading team trainer, whilst I was at Scampton (1978-1982).

We stopped using it after it creaked a bit too much for safety.

It was then used for the Station’s EOD team to practice their skills, (a bit too enthusiastically if I remember correctly), before being pretty much left in situ for fire practice.

It was located at the end farthest away from the A15.

If anyone is interested, I was an Armourer based at Scampton, in those days, hence my quite vivid memories of that time.

Thank you for your replies.
No the one I was meaning was around 1985/86 and was complete (or at least looked it from the road) So it must have been XH563. Unless XL384 also stood in that place in complete condition for a period of time. But from driving by in the car, I recall only seeing the one standing there.

It was 563 you saw,i have a bad picture somewhere of her with the damn fence in the way ! The fire dump only had a wooden fence to hide it,hence the good piccy of it !
