Looks interesting if they can pull it off. It would be a massive undertaking, but it would be good to get XM607 under cover, or offer XH558 a new home…
RAF types have told me theres something modern on the base that’s very awkward to move. Not going to say on here as other RAF guys know what I’m talking about. The cost of moving it would be ridiculous.

If the focus is based on the Cold war then it will compliment the WW2 museums around the region nicely. With all that lovely hangar space it certainly makes sense to save all those airframes that sit outside dodging the scrap man. We all know that the Great British weather does very little for preservation.

Interesting unit based at Scampton:

I think it’s all pie in the sky.
I dont… 😉

It’s not just in the Echo! 😉

Still a bit larger than some of the roads it would have to pass through though 😉 Are you prepared to fund the cost of that kind of operation, because I know darned well Lincolnshire County Council haven’t got that sort of money available.
I think it’s all pie in the sky. And I wouldn’t give any story in the Lincolnshire Echo any credence unless I have read it somewhere else first (and most of their stories rthat have any basis in truth have usually already been reported elsewhere; sometimes several weeks before. One of the most inaccurate and poorly researched so-called newspapers I have ever come across to be honest.

I fear this council incentive to produce Lincolnshire’s ‘best’ aviation museum may be the final death nail for all our small private aviation museums in Lincolnshire. How would they compete with such a site?
The expectation that it will help other aviation sites in Lincs is just wishful thinking!

Rumours abound when I was in it had long since been shifted.
Or never even there in the first place 😉

Why does the dogs grave cause so much anger or mirth?
It would be a shame to loose what is a valid piece of aviation history and a link to the Dambusters raid. It should be preserved.

Thats it! they feel it ‘unfitting’ to exhume the dog!

How would you propose getting her to Scampton? Bit tight through Lincoln, and no easy way round either.[/QUOTE]

yep I was aware that that was its current use, I think they must’ve added or changed one of the training scenarios since I last looked, as you can now see more ‘tangled metal’ from the A15… quick look of their website I’m guessing its the ‘collapsed crane’ simulation…

That’s the Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue urban training facility, each of the former ammo bunkers contains a different environment scenario. The demolition site that you saw simulates earthquakes, train smashes etc etc

Is there anything left at Scampton? All the original station items with obvious genuine Dambuster stores labels provinanance seems to have been sold on Ebay. 🙂

at the moment we are resurfacing the main runway,
the amount of building work going of on site is unreal, so it could be anything.

Got it! There’s an un-accounted for bucket of instant sunshine from Faldingworth still on a shelf in Stores, and nobody can decide who’s slop chit it’s on! And everybody is uttering that wonderful phrase “Not me, Chief, I’m airframes”!!

Isnt XM607 at Waddington? I don’t see any reference to getting a Vulcan to Scampton??
I believe the phrase “wishful thinking” might be appropriate – however I understand that there is a longer article in the printed edition of the Echo, which may contain further details! 🙂
The ‘blacked-out’ Range Rovers will be after Resmoroh!! 😮
