Scanner Question

A quick question…This might seem like a daft question or it might of been answered before, but does airport security or an actual airline have any objections to me carrying a scanner onboard an aircraft as hand luggage? Would I be at risk of confiscation or is it perfectly okay? Any information or help is appreciated on the matter 🙂

I wanted to take my scanner on board as hand luggage. The security didnt mind the scanner but they drew the line at my PC, keyboard and monitor.
There excuse was that it was over weight and I wouldnt be able to plug it all in to scan any photos in.
I couldnt see a problem :p :p

i’ve taken mine several times – sometimes you are allowed to listern, sometimes not. If you are allowed keep your ears open for a freq change – miss one and you have to wait till you pick yourself up on the arrival airport pproach frequency!

Don’t take them to Belgium, you could have it confiscated, as they are forbidden here (I think it has something to do with the possibility to listen to police radios)

I frequently take mine with me, the problem is when im up there, i get no ‘reception’. About 400 feet in the air my scanner starts get rubbish, and then i just cant hear anything!
As for security, there shouldnt be a problem, and besides, if youre flying from a 3rd world coutry they would just think its a radio anyway:p .

Thanks guys. I was just a bit concerned about the implications so was wondering whether it was advisable to take a scanner or not. At last my mind is at rest 😉

I carried mine on a Qantas flight to the US about 12 months ago and know one objected.

I would think you’ll probably be okay, they would just put it through the x-ray and providing there was no problem which made the machine bleep, I don’t think they would mind. I think they would only say anything if someone tried to use one on an aircraft, but no one who uses this forum would do anything like that, so don’t worry.

I’ve taken mine (on domestic but the security is the same) through City, Gatwick, Luton & Stansted without any problems. I used to make a point of explaining that it was only a receiver, the aerial was removed etc. But nobody seemed interested.
