Whats the chances of a scanner being confiscated by security staff either at your local airport or at your destination or would it depend on where you are going i’m thinking of at Glasgow or when you arrived at Schiphol?
Cheers

There is no restriction of taking scanners with you in the US but you are not allowed to use it in flight.

It depends where you are going. It is no problem in AMS as long as you turn it off. Once landside you can turn it on again, also remember you may not leave it on when on the plane.
In some countries owning a scanner is illegal. Belgium for instance does not allow it. They will confiscate it and give you a fine. As far as I know Belgium is the only European country that bans them completely.

I have been through many domestic airports in the UK both before and after 9/11. I always remove the aerial and usually the batteries. I tell the security that its just a receiver and that its disconnected. They have always waved it through. No idea about airports abroad.
