SCARIEST PC or CONSOLE GAME

Ok, I’m talking any game on any console or PC. Is there one that can match Doom 3 on XBox?
When I first bought Doom3 I had never really heard of the Doom franchise – yes it’s true, I’m sad 😮 , but just for a laugh I bought it and waited till ten at night before trying it out…with all the lights in my flat turned off for added atmosphere….BIG MISTAKE!!!….ten minutes later I was up off the chair and turning the lights on then changing my underwear :p .
Even now Doom3 scares the u know what out of me at times, yet I have not bought a game to match it, Area51…erm BIG RIP OFF, Silent Hill…yeah Silent alright, probably cos they all died off boredom!!!

Where are the other scaries??? :diablo:

Oh, I’m not saying Doom3 is really really terrifying but when I first played it in the dark and the lights went out in the room I had entered, my cat brushed past my leg…..I never knew I could jump that high in a seated position!!! 😀

The scariest games i think are things like medal of honor ,brothers in arms, call of duty ect.The speed at which i get killed,i always think could i have done this in real life and just increases my respect for the men that did….

I have to agree there.

PC Gamer had a mod for Half Life that was called “They Hunger” that was very well put together. There were three editions of it, but the consistent theme was finding yourself a long way from civilisation with everyone turning into zombies. Great fun, and free… if you had half life.
The same guy that made that mod also created a similar mod set in space that was very good too. It was called Dark star or something like that.
Obviously the graphics are a bit old.

Speaking of old… another great game, which I really enjoyed… that took ages to beat and could be played many different ways (you specialised in different areas which gave you special skills… ie if you had special skills in computers you could hack security systems and take over control of gun turrets, or if you specialised in weapons you might just try to fight your way through)…anyway it is called System Shock II. As I said old and average graphics, but great game, great story, must be budget by now.

PC or ps2???

PC if you’re referring to Undying.

The graphics are what they are; five years old (more, actually), but that doesn’t ruin the experience in my opinion.

Clive Barker’s Undying brings players into a world of arcane magic, supernatural abominations and ancient horror.

Set in Ireland of the 1920’s, players take on the role of Patrick Galloway, who has been summoned to an ancestral estate by its lone descendent Jeremiah. Death has claimed his four siblings, each who have reanimated intent on slaying their living brother, the last of the family, so as to free the Curse of the Undying King.

In order to save his friend and unravel the curse that has befallen Jeremiah’s family, Patrick must embark on five perilous quests before he can unearth the final horror of the estate.

Each quest brings Patrick face-to-face with one of Jeremiah’s undead siblings and the strange and wicked creatures the curse has attracted. In addition, Patrick must triumph over his reviled competitor Kiesinger. If there is power to be had by unearthing the mystery of the estate then Kiesinger will try and steal it – and there is much power to be had. It’s up to Patrick to defeat each of Jeremiah’s siblings and vanquish Kiesinger in order to quell the Undying King.

Review and screenshots, demo.

Silent Hill, apparently…?

Try playing that in the dark 😉

The very first Resident Evil game on the Playstation one was a game I can really remember scaring the hell out of me. Was just a fantastic game.

Oh yes the good old days.

If you’re looking for a good atmosphere, I would recommend Clive Barker’s Undying.

Certainly was at the time! 😀

Oh yeah. I remember downloading the shareware version the night it hit the Apogee BBS. Playing it at night in the dark and getting jumped by a Pinky Demon and the creepy music. . . everything about it was cool. No other game has touched it since for me. Doom and Doom II were the best.

Future Pilot, get D3…u can pick it up on most bargain shelves for around a tenner these days, or go to any “GAME” store if u have that franchise around and u will pick it up on the two for twenty racks…more than worth it. The Collectors Edition comes with the original Doom and Doom 2 as well as some interesting short documenatries about the Doom series.

I heard some interesting stuff bout “The Suffering”, it does sound good but its sequel “Ties that Bind” is said to be just the same game with a few extras thrown in.

Anybody played “Call of Chuthulu” or however the hell u spell it

Oh, and picking up on the Silent Service thing…try taking ur sub’ as far down as she’ll go on Silent Hunter…that’s quite scary 😉

I do remember the original Doom as a sort of scary game but from what I’ve been hearing Doom 3 sounds great, looks like I have to invest in that now.

Certainly was at the time! 😀

Now that u mention it, I have heard great things about Resident Evil but have never got round to playing the several sequels that are out. Sequels don’t seem to have the same impact…Doom3 Resurrection of Evil just didn’t have that “What the hell was that???” kinda feel to it as Doom3 did.
Played Silent Hill, but it didn’t have the feeling of being all alone that Doom3 has, I know I keep going on about D3 but it just sets a bench mark against which I compare all other scaries.
I mean, just for example…when ur walking down a corridor in D3 on Mars City, I tend to have that “I’m all alone here…aren’t I???” feeling. And the stories u hear on through the game give it a real sense of atmosphere.
Silent Hill was shoot this pick up that kill them, Doom3 is….Run, don’t look back just ruddy RUN!!!!! :diablo:

I have to say that The Suffering gets a thumbs-up from me as being a bit pant-wetting. There’s a certain nasty that has swords for arms and legs, and when you hear the thing clanking about in the darkness, or the growl it makes when nearby, it sends a shiver up your spine!

Haven’t played the second game, however!!

Even the first zombie in the dining room, the music, the amosphere. Everything about it was just perfect :D.

The dog jumping through the window – that was a brown trouser moment! 😀
