Scott Crossfield

Just picked this up form another source, it appears Scott Crossfield (first pilot to exceed Mach 2, in the Douglas Skyrocket IIRC?) is missing in USA. Seems he is in a light a/c which is overdue.

CNN website carrying the story

Yes, just found this sad news on the BBC’s website quite by accident:

That is sad,…perhaps very small consolation that he died doing what he loved.

RIP.

A true giant of a time in aeronautical history that we’ll never see again…back when records were set seemingly daily, and new types took to the air with stunning regularity.
As aviation “buffs” spometimes we focus too much of our attention on the aircraft…and not enough of the designers, pilots, and technicians that made them take flight.

RIP Scotty

(I’m not being disrespectful…that’s what Yeager called him in
“The Right Stuff”…)

Here’s a NASA photo showing him in front of the team it took to launch a D-558-II flight…

Bad news. Thoughts go out to Scotts family and freinds at this time.

Had the honour of meeting the man some years ago – a true unassuming gent.
Yet another of my childhood heroes no longer with us.

Clear blue skies always Scott, and thanks for so many memories.
