Scottish

Yo , I’m interested in seeing how many people on the forum come from Scotland , could be handy if we could get a list and think about sharing some of the costs in travelling to some of the shows south of the border , in fact I would like to see how many different nationalities use the forum

Warwick

Hi,

It’s been quite a few years since I left Grangemouth to live in the West Midlands but I count as Scottish.

The wreckage is Warwick ASR.1, BV512 of No.6 OTU. It spun into Culbin on the 5th Dec 1945 while training on aysmetric flying.

Regards
Ross

RE: Scottish

Found it!
The book is by Jim Hughes and its original date 1991, with reprint in 1999.
The reference to the crash doesn’t give much detail- only that it came down in December 1945, killing the crew. I presume it came from Kinloss as its in that section of the book. Hope this is helpful.

RE: Scottish

Der, in the book you mention, does it give the identity and details of the Warwick that went down in the Culbin forest? I’ve attached some photo’s of the crash site.

RE: Scottish

The Watchtower is particularly atmospheric-and spooky. I was particularly interested in the article in the current FlyPast on the 190 recovered from Norway that shot down one on the Beaus on Black Friday.
The book-“A Steep Turn To the Stars” I bought in Elgin a couple of years ago gives a very good rundown of the mission. It also provides details of all the airfields in the north east and their histories. Well worth a look over.

RE: Scottish

Der, I’ve stood at the memorial at Upper Dallachy and walked on whats left of the taxiways at sundown and there is definately an atmosphere about the place , visions of the Banff Strike Wing , how many young men flew from these airfields – how many paid the ultimate sacrifice ………..
Definately a nice place to live , Uncle Keith has it made Nimrods to the left , Tornados to the right and the blue sea in front.

RE: Scottish

My ambition is to retire to Lossiemouth and buy a house in Prospect Terrace overlooking the vast, sweeping bay to Garmouth, spending my days cycling around the airfields, both live and abandoned and watching the jets manouvering. I visited Dallachy this year, and standing at the runway intersection, looking down the potholed concrete in the late evening, I could almost feel the throb of the engines of the Beaufighters long departed as they headed out over the North Sea.
Youre a lucky man indeed to live where you do.

RE: Scottish

Hello my Bonnie Boy’s! Alastair has it right, I’m in Burghead, slap in the middle between Lossiemouth and Kinloss, it’s Tornado’s on my right and Nimrods on my left, plus everything else that uses Tain Range to the front. Blue skies, and a nice beach. For us it’s not new year till Saturday, when we burn the Clavie and celebrate our Pict past. I’ll not be recovered for a few days!

RE: Scottish

Hi guys.

As you know I am near Edinburgh. Tranent to be exact. If anyone doesnt know where that is I usually ask them if they know Musselburgh race course and the answer is usually yes. So there you go.

I know Keith Mac is north of the border and by North I mean NORTH. I am sure he will tell us where he is based next time hes on the forum.

I wonder why East Fortune dont try and stage more shows during a year. I think it would be more that possible.

Also I wonder when the will bring in the Friday night part of the show again so we get to see the aircraft up close. I really missed that from this years show. Some times it was the best part of the show for me.
