The biggest thing they have to sort out in addition to the display aircraft itself, is getting rid of the 2 hour break in the flying display. I know some of it was to do with aircraft displaying elsewhere and transiting but it really disrupt the event. Those on the sea front in prime positions were loathed to leave because the they wouldn’t get back, also although it can’t be helped the beautiful light in the early afternoon clouded over into tricky to an amateur photographer like me conditions by the time the “stars of the show” arrived.

I thought the display was too heavily reliant on wee prop planes doing the same six stunts over and over again, and only the vintage types really interested me (and my partner who isn’t really into aviation, make of that what you will). However the imagery they have used on the BBC website is taken up largely with the Vulcan and the two Lancs (which never made the display). This year we are, apparently, looking at both the BBMF Lanc the Vulcan being out of action. What will fill that gap? A couple of Tocanos perhaps?

Certainly sounds like a fair bit of the funding will be used to increase the number and quality of the participants. There’s a short radio interview here –

Hoping they beef up the show this time as the flying display was distinctly thin last year. Very aware the organisers would be using the first one to test out demand and hopefully will build on it..

I went last year, so I’m interested to see what they dig out. The JP, Catalina and Vulcan were probably the aircraft I found most interesting, so I’m interested to see what they bring out this year.

I’ll remain hopeful that I can make it this time!
