IL12 at Delhi

Taken at Delhi April 2009 on the dump with a building site all around. Not a very clear picture but taken from a fast moving coach.

According to my ancient copy or Wrecks and Relics the Farnborough Valiant nose was XD860. I am pretty sure it was over by the trees on the far side of the runway at one of the SBAC shows but I think scrap airfarmes tended to get moved around at Farnborough over the years.

Far from it, digital technology that is all, check my early Chinook ones that I scanned in the thread under that name, it is thanks to the likes of you we have these images to view, no matter how bad you think they look, they are a treasure trove of stuff never to be seen again………. keep em coming they are superb!

Imagine what we would of had if Digital had come about prewar…… the cost of developing films was a right financial put off, to find you had one shot and 23 expensive squares of nothingness, with technology you can see and edit on the go…….. If that had been available there would have been millions of images about.

OK Now its aircraft recognition time…..list the types in this shot of the dump at RAE Farnborough on 1 April 1979.

Just found that the fuselage section in the centre of this image is the rear fuselage of Trident 1c G-ARPC that was w/o after a cabin fire at LHR in 1975. And the silver Gnat fuselage is the prototype trainer XM692 that had previously been at Foulness. The wings on the left are probably Victor XA938.

Hi Graham if you read back through the last four or five pages of this thread Queepee has asked the same question and has been shown.
Your best bet if you are going to post alot of decent image quality pictures is to upload you pictures to PhotoBucket or similar photohost website and then to link your images to your posts here.
For short term use, when you write your posts you will see a ‘manage attachments’ box, follow the dialoge and hopefully it will become clear.
Looking forward to your success and seeing the images!

The Valiant nose at Brooklands is a big longer than the one in the picture. Also does anyone have pictures of the Valiant noses in the Hanger at Cosford which now houses the RAFM Varsity and Argosy etc. There were two or three either white or silver and seemed quite long sections. They were there on the very first opening of the museum possibly 1973.

I would agree with that, XD816 was the last flyer ending at Abindgon in ’68, it seems it was broken up there and the nose was owned by the RAFM since and is on loan to Brooklands.
I can’t see that it would have gone to Farnborough dump in its time.
My hunch going off condition is that it might be XD857 now at Flixton.
XD826 and XD875 also survive in complete cockpit form.

The Valiant at Brooklands came from Henlow the one at Farnborough was not the same one. I am not at home so dont have access to my set of Wrecks and Wrelicks.
I have hundreds of scrap aircraft photos most on slides so will have to sort them out.

Thanks for your kind comments, I will keep them coming. I still have another 30 years worth to post yet. As for the Valiant nose, I am not certain but I know there was a lot of speculation at the time that this belonged to XD816 (quoting from memory here). if you remember this was the last one flying and appeared at the RAF Review at RAF Abingdon in 1966.

PH-DSL was a DC-7C, ex KLM and ex Martin’s Air Charter, scrapped at Stansted.

Just to prove that I can take some slightly better quality photos, here are a selection from my local yard, that of Carsons Helicopters PA. Since I came to the US some 6 years ago I have not forgotten my roots in British Military and although I am interested in all things aviation, my knowledge oif the equipmernt used by the US military is rudimentary. I will not embarras myself by providing any detail to these shots except to say that they are all in the last 3 years.

Your pictures put most my early work to shame. If only I could have taken photos of the same quality on my many trips in the 60s, 70 etc. Still they are what they are.

I will continue with some more of mine from the late 70s and into the 80s, there are a couple of civvis creeping in now (well pseudo civvi anyway in the case of the Brit).

Compare this picture of the Britannia taken on 13 April 1981 with the earlier one above. What a sad sight.

Last one for tonight is that of the rear end of Gnat T1 XS109 after a stint as a BDR airframe also at Dunsfold.
