more aircraft types to follow so if any of you out there need photo’s of any aircraft that were purchased via phoenix aviation give us a bell as i’ve got to scanning the archives in

Are they majorly different to the VC-10 engines?

Unfortunatly so, they have an extra stage or two I believe, I don’t know whether the accessories are the same though.

As for the undercarriage legs, was just before my time, but I believe we removed all useful parts and then scrapped them, although one is at Aeroventure I think.

The APU went somewhere aswel, you must have the U/C units up with you?

As for what I have, remember your latest work update, well that is what I have, not very comfy – even with the cushion inflated!
I asked the scrappies for the landing lights, they obliged buy cutting out wing panels which were about 6’x4′, I then had to drive out of the main gate with thenm strapped to the roof of my car!

Unfortuately I don’t have any useful bits for you VS, I would like to visit your Victor sometime though!

Not really a scrapyard, although it looked like one at the time. I don’t think the Cessna, a Stinson or this Safir were ever brought out of Addis. amazing trip though!

What bits do you have stowed away….anything that you trip over when you go up there….you know getting in your way? 😉

Cant believe the engines were still in it, the spares…the spares!!!

Not sure if you are reffering to my post about XL190, if you are the aircraft was broken up with the Conways in, but they went to one of the research establishments for engines and nuclear proofing!
Of course the cockpit is at Manston and the undercarriage was destined for Elvington.
I did have several chunks, some of it is in the loft!

The Convair wasn’t badly corroded – a friend surveyed it for a foreign museum and it was very viable. Sadly the paperwork side of things seems to have been something that there wasn’t a willingness to resolve.

What?? Well if thats the case then thats even worse.. a sound and unique to the UK aeroplane was scrapped because A; lack of interest and B; issues with paperwork. I am speechless.:mad:

Could be, seems quite humpty backed enough, I’m sure some one more adept at aircraft recce will be able to tell us

XV423 & XV465 at Leeming taken around 2002 & XT914 gracing Brampton’s gate.

great pictures:o i believe xv423 and xv426 were scrapped not long after these photos and xv499 is the only phantom left at leeming possibly going to elvington in the future?. and xt914 is still at brampton though the base is rumoured to be closing in the near future

Also any of the tiger schemed phantom that the owner of hanningfords……..

I have the drag chute door from that a/c in my garden 😀 ……..along with another few bits of various Phantoms.

We saw the fin when we collected the spare MLG leg for Lindy some years ago. I believe that was the only surviving bit….

More than likely Sea Mosquitos as operated by the FAA in the immediate post-war period.
Fascinating pics.

I’m new on here but find this thread fascinating. I do’nt know if these two old, and not very good photos’ are of any interest.
They were taken in a field close to R.N.A.S. Yeovilton, date unknown. I believe they are of Fireflies, and in the back of one photo looks like the tail of a Seafire.
The other photo I’m sure are of Mosquitos, why would they be at a R.N . station?
As I said, I hope they may be of interest. I’m afraid I do’nt know how to make the pictures bigger.
