In the grass by the Nimrod/Comet AEW was the left overs of either a military 748 or an Andover.

This one is a bit unusual…

Not a Vulcan but at least it was where they were born.These shots were taken at the 1985 airshow and were just dumped behind the car park.As you can see they were obviously mock up’s for a certain AEW aircraft !

Good photo though Skud, under normal circumstances we could say one that wont be repeated, but as we all know, 3 Vulcans are / have been scrapped now all in less than 3 years…….. now that is sad 🙁 Bex

Yeh i know what you mean,i keep bobbing over to Woodford to see how 603 is doing,still whole last week.

Heres a picture of the 1-11 graveyard taken at Southend in the mid 1990s. I cant be shure exactly when as all my records were lost in a house fire. I think the two dan air 1-11s are 500 series. Im not too sure about the third, maybe British Eagle? I have plenty more of the scrapyard if you would like too see them, as security wasnt too tight at Southend then.

Just to add to the ‘heap’, attached is a shot of the BKL Alloys compound at Kings Norton, to the south of Brum..circa 1948.

They melted many an airframe in their time…anybody got any memories of the place??

saaf spits

reading all this makes me very sad for to reasons first all these wonderful aircraft
in this horrid state of disrepair and the other reason is the i wish i was not around in the 60s, 70s, and 80s to see and maybe even save a few of them .
well on a lighter note mark12 can u plz tell me more about the saaf spits in brakpan airfeild oh and as for spitfire 5553 that crashed a while back well i saw the wreckage in a crate at zwartkops airforce base about 2 months ago i toke pics but then i was caught by the guards who made me delete the pics 😡 oh and yes the saa did say they r going to restore the spit but the sad truth is that they dont have the money to finish off a half built p51 let alone for the spit,
venturas,vampire and shack that are on the list for resroration

Thanks for the information about that Anson. Ever since I first saw that thread I have been hoping it was perhaps the last Airspeed Envoy, and would make the basis of a restoration project. Thanks.

These are two different MK2 avro ansons in our storage yard. The brighter looking one used to be outside near our lancaster for the kids big and small to play on/in until it became a safety issue. High winds which are prevelant around these parts flipped her onto her nose and she has sat like this ever since.

I’d say Anson, judging by the extended nose, and I’d take a wild guess it is in Canada somewhere. They seem to have lots of this stuff, lucky bleeders.
