Sea Fury forced landing in Harston, Cambs.

I just got a message from a local contact that a Sea Fury has made a forced landing in Harston, Cambs.

Two people involved, no fatalities thank goodness – I’ll add more info when I get it.

Goes without saying that I hope all are safe and well.

Tha passenger was a freelance writer working for Key Publishing, and judging by his account of the accident is very lucky to be alive!..

This is only the same paperwork as 30 years ago. It’s not the same airplane .  Mike posted this on WIX and I was told this also by someone in the business.  And thinking about it,  a lot can be rebuilt ,  but that thing was totalled in 1990. Destroyed.

Mike’s post:

“The aircraft which crashed on Tuesday was essentially a different one altogether from the 1990 one. After the crash it was parted out, the power wing fold mechanism going into an ex-Iraqi Fury in New Zealand. The ‘new’ WG655 was built up from mostly ex-Iraqi parts, using very little from the original other than the identity and paperwork. Some of the bits from the original ended up in various other rebuilds, some are still stored with Sanders at Ione.”

Sad news, but glad those on board got away with what appears to be minor injuries – looking at the pictures of the wreck, it could have been a lot worse!

Here’s the start up and take off prior to the forced landing (note the smoke trail that appears on the port side as the gear comes up), followed by some footage of the aircraft in the field following the forced landing : –

I’m glad the crew aren’t badly hurt. But poor old 655 can’t catch a break – I can’t help but be reminded of the similarly-catastrophic accident this airframe suffered 30 years ago.

Also hit the Cambridge News – looks pretty badly bent, though also states minor injuries – if so, given where the fuselage has split, someone’s guardian angel is doing overtime!

Hope both are OK.
