Sea Fury on Steroids!

Hi All,

The undoubted star of the 2012 Flying Legends, in my opinion, was the Australian Navy Sea Fury. What a fabulous display it was! Here are a few pics………… Hope 2013 is even better!

Thanks for the comments, one and all – always appreciated.

Ant, you’ve not lost your touch for gems of information – that’s a good site to look at, too.

Both the French registered Furies are powered by Wright R-3350’s, as are most of the “Americanized” Furies. The only exceptions as far as I’m aware are Dreadnought, flying with a whopping 28-cylinder P&W R-4360, and Argonaut with a P&W R-2800. Both were converted by Sanders Aeronautics, and the R-2800 fit on Argonaut is a fairly recent modification which could be applied to other examples in due course. The Sanders website is well worth checking out, click the “Aircraft” tab in the red bar…

Hi All,

Whatever engine the Sea Fury has it’s pretty damn impressive. The climb outs were fantastic – the aircraft just seemed to keep going up without losing speed. I hope these few pictures can show just that.

Pegasus, I think we could not have been far away from each other –

I think more likely a P&W 2800.

“…she is not fitted with a Centaurus.” Is she fitted with a 3350?

It’s a beautiful aircraft. It’s just a shame that she is not fitted with a Centaurus.

Day we went there was a bit of wind, I gather on a still day the display is even better. Great photos of a stunning aircraft.
