I was wondering about the 24 or so projects brought out of Iraq by the Jurist group.
I know they ended up in Orlando, FL and from there were spread all about.
Many have been restored, some unfortunately restored and destroyed.
My question, how many are still in project form?
I was just sent a photo the other day which clearly showed one of the Sea Fury projects in the background of the airplane pictured, and the picture was taken about two weeks ago! The Sea Fury appeared to be was as it arrived in MCO.
So now I know where one is.
Strangely enough the fellow who gave me the picture had not noticed!!
I am curious how many others have yet to be started.
I know that Classic wings did a great multi issue feature on surviving Sea Furies, but I am still curious as to what may be in as recovered condition.
can anyone contribute additional tips?

I don’t recall the reg of it, but the Sea Fury at DX from what I’d seen is coming on in leaps and bounds. She looks very nice indeed.

To return to the original question, not so very long ago there was a Fury project (ex-Iraqi AF), largely complete, for sale at the former Polar museum in Minnesota, via Courtesy Aircraft in Illinois. There were photos of it on Courtesy’s site at the time and it still wore its Iraqi paintwork. Another, possibly Tallichet-owned, Baghdad Fury project was at the MAPS museum in Ohio for a time.
Polar/Fisk project was sold to Dan Vance of CA
Tallichet/MAPS project went to Sanders for restoration

No offence to Southern Cross, but if I had the money I think I’d have to make an offer on WG655, she’s an absolute stunner. Failing that, it would be nice to think she could be donated to the RNHF, and perhaps it would save on shipping costs if Eddie Kurdziel donated his Firefly at the same time…well, we can dream 😀
SIGH! If only……
Going back to the earlier comment, VZ345 is the only other Sea Fury that RNHF currently have. She is heavily robbed, having “donated” many parts during the rebuild of VR930, but she’s still on her undercarriage.

So many Furies, so little cash…
Mr Greenhill certainly prepped WG655 for a return to Yeovilton…she’s gone back to the exact markings she wore with RNHF. Much as I’d love to see her at least once at a show here, I hope she comes “home” somehow!
Re Mr Brown’s Wright-powered T20, the livery in that last shot is pretty understated compared to what she wears now, a scheme referred to as “Phoenix Rising”, and the most protrusive Fury livery since “Miss Merced”…not what I’d have picked but it sure stands out! Mr Brown also has one of the two surviving flyable Canadian Furies, “September Fury” (“Miss Merced” is the other ex-RCN flyer).

Keep the Furies coming, all…

She was dismantled by a team from 18 Squadron. I guess she is in the U.K – a number of people feel distinctly uncomfortable about the whole thing!
maybe we can set up a OIL for FUN program to make them feel better? 😀

Sea Fury
Nasty horrible smelly thing, very cramped in the back and the pilot insists on checking you for loose change 😀
*Thinks*
Next time I see him on a roof at Old Warden with his long lens out, must push the smug git off
*shuffles off muttering and generally green with envy*

It has a 3350 up front. The owner is a good friend, infact I will see him next week.
H’mm, tempting as it is, I really want to fly in a Fury with the Bristol bolted on the front! 😉

WG655
WG655 always was a stunner, here she is airborne with the RNHF in 1985…

They were parked next to each other at Oshkosh and by all accounts WG655 is a magnificent restoration with a Bristol up front to boot! As for donating it, well a nice plan and we can dream.

I’ve just been looking at the Courtesy Aircraft Sales website and it appears that Southern Cross has just been added to the listings.

Was it easy to arrange? Have you got a contact? And the all important question, is she Centuras powered?
nah – Southern Cross is missing a propeller blade….

Not Aus but over Missouri last year in the back of Southern Cross.
Good fun and yes it is cramped.

Not VZ345 but WG655

Hi all,on the WIX registry VX309 & VZ345 are listed as T-20’s and are both in storage as spares holdings for the RNHF.Lee,you may be best able to answer this, are both still reasonably intact?VZ 345 is supposed to have a twisted fuse from a landing incident,is this severe enough to prevent restoration? Are both stripped of all parts?Just asking out of curiosity as I feel a lottery win coming up soon.Best regards,Pete
Pete
Someone here will confirm the actual facts, dates (I don’t follow the Fury scene too closely) but VZ345 actually made its post rebuild first flight in the US recently. When Mr Beattie put here down in the field just outside Yeovilton, after, if the old grey stuff remembers correctly the engine had thrown a conrod, unfortunately he managed to find the only tree in the field that he elected to belly land. After hitting the tree I remember that the fuselage was actually broken in half!
Both he and his back seat passenger were very lucky not to have substained serious injury.

I really don’t mind how smelly, or how cramped in the back and I’d gladly (stupidly?) give the pilot my change for fuel!
BTW, did you take that photo? If so, where, when? One presumes it was in AUS???
Do please tell…

Has to pay for the fuel somehow.
