Sea Fury Roundup challenge…

Hi folks,
Here’s a challenge, inspired by this thread.

OK, how quickly can we complete a worldwide Sea Fury / Fury census?

Pics of (cof cof) ALL the survivors, ideally from our own files…?

I’ll kick off with this one. It’ll be open to offers to the Australian Government soon, so start saving!

Hi BK, Dan is not keen on pics of his aircraft (EEMV) so I won’t post them, suffice to say he is busy with multiple projects so progress is slow, the Fury is still in sections but is being repaired. Meiers have just posted a pic on their FB page showing their T20 with an additional cooler fitted on the RH wing where the Tempest one mounts, not sure why this has been done, Pete

“Speaking of Sea Fury T.20’s, the all-red “D-CACE” at MeierMotors should be getting very close to fly as well. “
John: at first when I saw this in a new thread on WIX I thought that’s what it was about! D-CACE is going to be something special for sure.

I thought it was a shame for Critical Mass to revert back to stock, but I think they’ve done a great job and, as JohnTerrell points out, a T.20 is a far more practical proposition.

We might as well continue the Sea Fury roundup. Here’s the Dutch FB Mk.51 in its new location in the NMM at Soesterberg.

And if in its stock configuration it will be flown and displayed more often, all the better. (I know some of the most highly modified Reno air racers, like Rare Bear for instance, can be real chores to fly, and thus hard to really enjoy – limited to test flights and Reno.) This project to return the aircraft to its original T.20 configuration has seemingly been in the works for many years now (as much as 14 years, going by Ken Dwelle’s description), and it is wonderful to see it completed/flying. I look forward to seeing the paint work when that is finished.

Speaking of Sea Fury T.20’s, the all-red “D-CACE” at MeierMotors should be getting very close to fly as well.

Some pics I took of D-CACE at MeierMotors in July 2014. She´s much more complete by now, recent pics on MeierMotors homepage / Facebook page. I would not be surprised if her maiden flight will take place this year.

Critical Mass was such a looker! Still, even a stock T. 20 does it for me.

Apologies for the thread resurrection but I wasn’t sure where exactly to put this post from WIX that I’m sure will please some here: the former Sea Fury racer Critical Mass, restored back to T.20 configuration but with an American engine, flew again on Saturday:

Here are some photos of the first post restoration flight of the Sea Fury T.20 WE820, D-COTE, ES-8504, N85SF which happened on Saturday 1 July. It’s been 14 years since she last flew as the clipped wing unlimited air racer Critical Mass. Dennis Sanders and Tom Dwelle are flying chase in the Centaurus powered T.20 N924G. Three flights conducted on Saturday with no major issues. Paintwork to follow in a Royal Navy scheme from her time at Lossiemouth with 738 SQN.

[QUOTE=Archer]Here is the late Paul Morgan’s G-EEMV ‘Baby Gorilla’. I’ve read somewhere that the wreckage of this aircraft is still around and might be used in a restoration project somewhere (IIRC) so I guess this possibly qualifies it for this list.

Baby Gorilla was sold to Sweeden and is currently underway to airworthiness. The airframe was not that badly damaged in the accident and im sure will grace the skies once more which i know Paul would have approved of.

Does anyone know what happened to the Iraqi Fury they found on a roundabout somewhere in Iraq during the 1991 Gulf War? I think some idiots in the Army removed its tail fin as a trophy, but there was talk of it being reunited with the airframe and it being shipped to UK (or USA?) intact?

Already mentioned on the ‘other’ SF thread.

Is this the one in question?

Being rebuilt by its Swedish owner at present. Will fly again!

G-FURY

And lets not forget this once machine of beauty!

Following Spencer Flack putting her down in the field outside Waddo in ’81, I was led to believe the remains were sold and put into storage. But also heard she was under a slow rebuild, anyone with more up to date news, photos?
