Hi All,
I know I’m being really picky here but… everytime I see pictures of VR930 I cannot help but think that the roundel on the starboard fuselage side just does not look correct. I think it’s the size of the red circle which IMHO is just a little bit on the large side. The port side roundel looks perfect.
I mentioned this to my Dad who has seen more Sea Furies fly than you can shake a stick at and he agrees!
Has anyone else noticed this?
Cheers
Nick
PS – Great aircraft in every other respect and a big thumbs up to the RNHF!

just enjoy the sound of that Centaurus! None of that American junk bolted to the front! 😀
Here, here…!!! Those Yanks really know how to ruin a perfect airplane!

it looks like it may have been altered.
Can confirm it hasn’t, and won’t be for a while yet. Anyway, never mind the roundel…….just enjoy the sound of that Centaurus! None of that American junk bolted to the front! 😀

I subscribe to the “I hadn’t even noticed before this thread, and it certainly doesn’t affect my enjoyment of seeing it fly!!!” camp 😀
Can I join your camp then? I agree that the paint scheme doesn’t affect my enjoyment of seing it fly. Much as I would prefer authenticity I’d rather it was airworthy and being flown in any colour scheme the owner wanted rather than sat in a museum.

Of course it could be that it IS authentic, and done deliberately……

You mean could not care less?
No, ‘couldn’t care less?’ 😀
Can’t believe I missed that – doh!

Apart from the fact that these ‘wartime’ roundels would have been applied in a peacetime factory
And I suppose no mistakes were made in peacetime? And that these aircraft weren’t subsequently repainted once taken on charge? Perhaps even in the field (i.e. Korea)? My point was that there’s enough “reasonable doubt” to let a private owner “get away” with one slightly out-of-size roundel until the next flaming repaint at least.

The full phrase is “Couldn’t give a monkeys ass” which means “We really could care less”.

I can hardly believe that an extra two inches makes much difference to anyone.

A monkey’s what?
The full phrase is “Couldn’t give a monkeys ass” which means “We really could care less”.
And the origins of the post come from the old, ‘shouldn’t go on the forum’s when I’ve had to many real ales down the old battlecruiser’, pile.
I think Lee answered the question a bit more eloquently than me…..

the sea fury is a beautiful aircraft dont you think..i dont care about the roundel size, but how about putting a mig-15 kill marking under the canopy….just a suggestion. 😉
By: Mark V - 6th May 2006 at 08:39
Because I doubt 99.9% of us actually give a monkeys.

Lee Howard – many thanks for your response.
Like I originally said I am being very picky here and to those of you who perhaps might have hinted it doesn’t affect their pleasure of viewing the a/c  – then of course its doesn’t. Remember, this is a discussion board after all and I was only discussing the size of a fuselage roundel!
Just to reiterate if anyone from the RNHF is reading this, then I think you do a fantastic job. Some of my earliest aviation memories are meeting Ron Gourlay from the RNHF (correct I think?) and him letting myself, my brother and my Dad sit in TF956 after CU airday. Fantastic!
Would you be interested in the Sea Hornet F20 my Uncle has stored in his barn? Joking of course, but what a sight that would be in the air…
All the best
Nick

Time, money, manpower
Ah yes – good old TMM!
By: Lee Howard - 6th May 2006 at 00:01
Why wait that long?
Time, money, manpower……. It’s gone nearly ten years like this, so it’s hardly a pressing requirement! There was talk of her being refinished at the end of this season, but I’ll have to get back to you on that. WV908 was refinished on the station in 2004 after the repair work following the jetpipe split, and LS326’s wings are the priority this year as far as refinishing is concerned. Unfortunately it all comes at a cost these days.
Still, don’t forget that donations can be made via the RNHF website – it all helps! (hint!) 😉

when she gets refinished (no, there aren’t any plans as yet) it will be corrected.

Considering how wartime markings varied from the prescribed dimensions,
colours, sizings and even placement, I would think this is fine.

Ah, busted!! 😉 Actually I noticed this in summer 2004, and when we checked with a ruler it turns out the centre red dot on the starboard side is a whole 2″ bigger diameter than the port! Don’t blame RNHF, though – they didn’t paint it!
So well done everyone! Good to see you’re paying attention! 😀 Don’t worry, when she gets refinished (no, there aren’t any plans as yet) it will be corrected.
