At the end of the day they are worth what someone is prepared to pay. There has been a slow but steady stream going into private owners hands (ones at Shoreham, Topsham, Corsham and ‘Oxfordshire’ come to mind) plus the one which went to the states.
I know what the Midland Air Museum paid for theirs direct from the MoD and although it was 4 figures it wasnt anywhere near the £10K mark .
That said there is now a finite supply in the short term with the last Shawbury ones off to India, of those left available in the UK the condition is getting worse with each one sold – hence more needs to be spent to make a presentable example.
The JetArt one is probably the most complete example around, but knowing how much is required to buy a HUD, MFU’s and an ejector seat to name but a few parts mising from all those sold off by the MOD, the price this is expected to make is probably not that exteme.
Sadly this out of the reach of all but the most commited collector…

Thats about the price I had heard – possibly even a little less but can’t remember the source of that information so I cannot vouch for its accuracy!!

I recall a national museum acquiring one for below 10K – realistically there isn’t a massive market when you look at the number of Sea Harriers that are around.

Last time I enquired about purchasing a SHAR the then vendor offered it to me for a price approximately double that offered on the eBay site!!
Seems prices have come down a bit but it would be interesting to know how much the MoD disposed of them for too…..

I’ve never met anyone from Everetts or even spoken to them so ultimately you should take what I’m saying with a pinch of salt….but if you were to turn up on their doorstep asking to buy a potentially airworthy Jag or SHAR from them for 25K, I can only guess that you may be in line for a certain amount of disappointment.
Perhaps forum members would have been happier if these Sea Harriers were dismantled for spares and sold through a middleman to India, rather than being restored…because many components are actually brand new and potentially serviceable. Or given away to charity just to get that warm fuzzy feeling. Well, with all due respect, the guy selling them isn’t running a charity.
As with everything else in life , it is worth what somebody is willing to pay for it.One would need to be seriously rich to operate a sea dog.The FRS 1(or 51) had much better hover performance and would be much more exiting to operate.
cheers baz

The latest Wrecks and Relics lists those in store at Shawbury as having been thought sold to the Indian Navy for use as spares.

everett have 3 complete JP’s that could potontially be put back in the air from £7.5k-£19.5k
(19.5 for one that has been put on the civil register and has an expired permit to fly) i think 25k is a lot to ask for a SHAR like this
By: FMK.6JOHN - 13th June 2008 at 08:30
Everett Aero has a Jag Gr.3 in a similar condition to this Shar for just 7.5K.
In fairness thier Shar is almost complete, engine and full cockpit.
John.

I’d be interested to see what the Everett Aero SHAR asking price is!!
By: Lindy's Lad - 13th June 2008 at 00:13
With all due respect…it’s not like the market is flooded with SHARs in such good condition!!
There have been a few on the market recently, but they don’t sell well due to the excessive prices being asked. For pocket money more you can get a Pitts S1B with a new C of A…, a squadron of JP’s, a handfull of hunters, or a museum full of cockpits. Too much money and out of reach of all but a few dedicated collectors. Remember that its just a shell!

james everett has a complete shar on his site with only 1291 airframe hours and 800 odd on the engine, sold as a complete aircraft, not bad?

There is one on Barnstormers from the same seller at £25,000.
By: Phantom Phixer - 12th June 2008 at 22:31
I spoke to the seller about his Sea Harriers a few weeks ago.
Knowing the purchase price you will have to go a long long long long long long long way past the starting price to get the sold sticker placed on the canopy.
Does look very nice though.
