Sea Hawk WV797

. . . and now, three weeks later it’s finished! 🙂

Well, the rocket rails and cockpit floor are to be painted (this Sunday), but to all intents and purposes MAM’s curvy little Naval jet fighter is finished and resplendent in its new paint job.

A few pix to illustrate the ‘more gooder‘ look. Consider that shine, the smoothness of the finish, the precision of the decals and markings. Notice the nose wheel bay – cleaned up a treat. There was remarkable little corrosion, some surface flaking is all, and that was mostly the old paint lifting. The cockpit is in really good shape, nothing missing, nothing broken. Pity it will never ‘light up’ but as explained previously, all the wiring is suspect and it would be too time-consuming to go over all the looms and circuits doing integrity and suitability checks. (This took about a year on their Canberra).

In the near future, WV797 will be re-positioned its tail pointing nearly into the corner of the field. This will allow more room in between it and the Hunter and help access (photo angles?) to the Sea Hawk, Javelin and Hunter. At least, that’s my theory.

Looks like the work was completed just in time too as the English summer is setting in with rain, overcast, inclement weather and rain. It’ll probably rain a bit too. Did I mention it will rain?

Anyway, do go along and have a look. Phone ahead, you never know, there may just be a chance of having a look in the pilot’s office. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays are the best days in my opinion as the Chief Engineer is there on those days.

Oh, and if you do go, don’t worry too much about what they’re doing to the F-4’s radome.

Cheers Les, and thanks also to everyone else that responded. I’ll get back to everyone properly tonight, but it looks like I have some good material here.

Best,

Steve

She looks great indeed. Rlangham, if you or anyone else gets down there anytime soon with a camera, would you mind shooting some more close ups of her for me? I’m doing a Sea Hawk repaints next for FS and would love some good reference pics showing panel lines and stencil markings etc.

Just a favour if you can, if not I will zoom in close on some pics from Airliners.net. Cheers,

Steve

Wow looking great, might try and get over there on Tuesday as i’ve only got one lesson at college. Good to hear about it being positioned to make it more photogenic, first time i’ve ever heard of a museum making an exhibit MORE easy to photograph!
