Sorry Alastair, I’m not sure what the score is with the Beau, as I’ve not been in to Skysport for a few months. Not really sure when I’ll next be able to get over there either as work’s gone crazy over the past few months and doesn’t show any signs of calming down… 🙁
Realistically though I do hope that if she’s sold she goes on to fly again. I’d dearly love to be able to watch her fly and know that I helped put her up there…

Steve , is there any signs of your Beau moving on yet since she was put up for sale ??? , are you still working on her ??

Hi Smiler,
TFC’s Beaufighter is an ex-Aussie Mk 21, they’ve been working on her for a good 8 or 9 years so far, and have done a very good job on her especially when you consider how rare the aircraft is, and how hard it is to locate parts.
There’s a pretty good section on TFC’s website dedicated to the Beau – http://www.fighter-collection.com/beaufighter/
Hope that helps.
Steve

Sea Hawks
Getting back to the original thread, I have no idea about the Sea Hawk other than I can’t wait to see it fly again. I wonder with all the desires for mad paint schemes on classic jets if they would repaint it in the Royal Navy ALL RED colour scheme they pioneered with its displays at Farnborough!
No I am not drinking Red Bull.

From my experience a nose leg can be quite easily damaged without the leg actually collapsing and making any gouge marks in the ground. Most consist of a fairly simple downlock assembly which can be weakened by corrosion . Alternatively the nose oleo itself is also prone to corrosion which can exhibit itself in various means such as exfoliation .In the long term a great number of these aircraft that spend their lives outside are going to end up as scrap if little attention is paid to corrosion in the undercarriage
bays. The particularily sad aircraft are the ones that are either
permanently up to their axles in mud or alternatively sitting on flat tyres. I can think of a few examples of these scattered around the country – I hope the ‘penny drops’ soon and we can see a raising of standards.

Damien – I agree with you there – glad it was only damage caused by corrosion – the jungle grapevine said that it was damaged during a towing attempt .

Thanks for those BC.I’d say they were great pics, but surelly it’s impossible to take a bad picture of a Javelin? 🙂
The chap who did the restoration work on ‘699 set up an excellent website about the restoration, and about Javelins in general.Hasn’t been updated in a while, but still well worth a browse.

It’s a shame that WR963 Shackleton AEW2 at Coventry Airport could not be displayed on the same site as the Museum or next to it..
It would allow others then a chance to see this airframe?

Have they finished the repaint of the Vulcan..the forward repaint was looking very good on my last visit. Jan 2002.
I really like the museum..it is very easy to photograph their collection but a bigger hangar would be great for some of the rarer airframes,,

Wow, there getting a sea hawk flying again? I’d love to see one of those back in the air. I’ve seen the one at Brunters close up and there’s not a lot of it there from what I can remember.
Any chance of a Javalin flying again?
Or even a Beufighter?

David.
As of last Saturday the Mig-21 was outside, just in front of the hangar. Inside was a Gnat and I believe a helicopter.

I think the Boulton Paul has to be a serious cause for concern
– certainly having a Mig 21 undercover whilst British built gems
are outside wouldn’t be my priority.

I cannot imagine the Sea Hawk (WV795) taxying at all in the future.

WV795
If WV795 is staying at Bruny are their plans to taxi it.
Would be nice to see it taxi with the Bucc and Sea Vixen:)
