Sea Vixen update

How wonderful to see the old girl back in the air. I used to work on her when she was on 899 Squadron RN,,,,the nostalgia brings tears to my eyes.

I see the Facebook page is saying that Saturday will now be the first display. Does that mean Matt will be getting his display authority on Friday at Yeovilton or are you just going there as a static exhibit and doing the display work up next week?

Great news. After its little indiscretion last year i did wonder if the Sea Vixen would ever fly again.

Evening all,
As reported earlier the Sea Vixen flew twice today.
First flight was just a slow general handling check. Then Matt brought her back to refuel and went to Yeovilton for a more thorough check out of the way of the “puddlejumpers”. Returned to Hurn, serviceable. No niggles or grumbles!!

Next flight on Friday to Yeovilton and will operate from there for a few days then on to Culdrose.
I will try and update as I get the info.

The permit did not materialize today, so the intended flight after the taxi run could not take place. Also the aircraft came back with a problem which needs to be sorted before a flight is possible.
Yes, Maj. Matt Whitfield is the display pilot this year.

She doesn’t have a ‘Permit To Fly’ so until she gets one — no flying.
I think it is a case of wishful thinking or, more likely, the person maintaining the facebook site being misinformed.

Was the lack of permit the reason for the no flight again today or was there another problem? The facebook page was saying a late afternoon flight after the ground runs, but then later posted flight canx again.

The way I understand it, since the pilot hasn’t flown the Vixen for about 4 years

So is Matt Whitfield back as pilot then?

I suspect that, owing to the protracted nature of the repair, the first thing to be issued once all are happy, will be a ‘Permit to Test’.

Once the test hours are flown off, a ‘Permit to fly’ can be issued.

Of course, I am not on the ground there……
