Sea Vixen XJ607

Don’t know if anyone has spotted this on Meridian news, seems that the tail of Sea Vixen XJ607 has been dug up in Billingshurst Sussex, restored in 1987 at Southampton, and in 1997 the nose went to Australia.

The nose of XJ607 resides at the Queensland Air Museum in Caloundra, Australia although it does travel around the country a fair bit as a mobile display. Since QAM acquired it in Nov 96 it has made several appearances at the Avalon Air Show near Melbourne. It was our belief that the remainder of the airframe had been scrapped before QAM purchased the nose section. Hopefully someone can explain why it was buried and not sold for scrap.

Any further info or images will be much appreciated by QAM.

Here is Sydney there is a paintball range on Richmond Road out in Quakers hill

I found there an old RAAF De Havilland Vampire under tarp
Tail detached from fuselage but otherwise in good condition
I was considering making an offer and saving it from rusting away to nothing

I was one of the 5 man team that dismantled XJ607 at Dunsfold. rather amused to see where one of the bits ended up!..
If I had a scanner working at this time I would post some pictures..

Watching this case with interest…

Indeed – the arrester hook from XJ607 is currently sat on my fireplace hearth! πŸ˜€
