Seafire

Mark 12,

As you’re the “Spitfire Daddy” (just read lots of your threads and drawn this conclusion to be correct!!), have you any idea what scheme the Seafire that went to ‘Weald is wearing???? ๐Ÿ˜€

There’s a mention of a “misuse” of a photo of PR503 halfway down the page on this thread so it may be the one you’re looking for? –

Sorry I canโ€™t remember that thread. Wonder if Mark12 still looks at the forum as he would be sure to know.

I saw ‘972 a few weeks ago and apart from the fin having to be rebuilt she is looking good for assembly and engine runs later on this year, all the systems are currently being refitted to the fuselage and the engine is back in, we MIGHT see her fly yet!

Thanks for the information. It seems this one is not going to see the light of day for a very long time.

When delivered to Trent Aero she came with a couple of sets of wings . Included in this was a pair of XVI wings .When inspected circa 2002 not very much of her original structure was actually usable due to both corrosion but to a larger degree restoration work which needed to be done again. She is a long way removed from her originality on import from France.

PP972 is being worked on with a view to replacing corroded components and bringing the structure up to airworthy standard. When complete it will probably be returned to store with its owner, David Arnold.

I’m dragging this thread out again, since the Flying-A Services PP972 got a brief mention, but it was not picked up. Does anyone actually have any concrete information about the status of this aircraft please?

On the subject of 336, now that the flight testing has been completed successfully, a full permit to fly should soon be issued. If this is provided in time, her public debut should be at Shuttleworth on 4 June.

Great news ET! ๐Ÿ™‚

Hopefully should be going, so fingers crossed that everything with 336 is ok on the day.

Cheers

I would say it was a part of the assembly in the picture as it was acquired from Newark and it would be an amazing coincidence for it to have gone it’s separate way before then and then ended up at the same place .

Yes but I can’t see it even with a glass on the original print.

Don’t be fooled by the original print. That is not the forward end of the ‘top hat’ datum longeron. It is the tubular tank brace that struts from the LH engine pickup point to the centre of frame 8, the item in question.

Thanks Moondance,

Logic says that this is LA546 with the identical style of ‘gas axe’ treatment.

This part is not evident in the assembly photo and may have gone its own route from the Carlisle scrapyard or Manchester Tankers.

The projection at the top of the substantial frame 8 on the left hand side, where the instrument panel sits, is clear in your shots but not in mine.

It is Griffon by virtue of the cartridge index control on the right. The lever on the left appears to be the RATOG jettison control as on the Seafire 46.

Interesting. ๐Ÿ™‚

I can’t see these either, having had a quick look through some other threads it seems to be photos that are posted as thumbnails.

Trying a different approach….
