Hi
Hopefully somebody can help with a query.
I am trying to help a friend who needs too know the name and possibly part number etc for a small box type object/device that relates to the right hand side of the early mark of Seafire cockpits that is used when on approach to the carrier. He assumes it must relate to judging height or distance but does not know what the boxes given name is. Any help appreciated.

Thanks Windhover and vacb for your replies,
I will ask my friend but I don’t think thats how he described the part but thanks for mentioning it anyway but I will double check.

Just a thought, the receiver R1147 was used as a ‘homing’ set.
I wonder if the control marked 51 on the stbd side of the cockpit (picture posted at #2 by Windhover) is what your friend is referring to?
If it is I believe this part to be 10J/111.

As requested; the Port Cockpit side.
(pretty much bog-standard spit as far as I can see.)

I believe I have that part, its air ministry marked with a crown on it, somewhere in my museum…

Rosevidney1 and Windhover many thanks
going by what rosevidney1 said would it be possible please for Windhover to send a port side image of the cockpit as well

As naval aircraft flew left hand circuits when operating on carriers such a device ought to be on the port side of the cockpit. I must admit I haven’t heard of such a device in the 1940s.

Here’s the starboard side of the cockpit of Seafire Mks 1-2-3. from A.P. 2280 A. B&C – PN
(2nd Edition. June 1944.)
Perhaps this will help to identify what you are looking for.
