Does anyone have any recent info on the above project? There were reports in the magazines as much as ten years ago saying she was nearly finished, but she’s still yet to fly. A trawl around the net brings up nothing recent.

That brings back some memories, must be at least 10 years ago now.

Photo of the engine running as mentioned by Oxcart earlier.

AFAIK PP972 is now at Greenham Common, allegedly 😉 and was in Pacific Fleet colours when I saw her looking reasonably complete early this year.

Yes, thats the one- thanks for the Hardwick warbirds site link too, Yak-11 fan, not sure of the relevance,
Oxcart – the link is a ‘signature’ and appears under all Y11F’s posts 🙂

thanks for the Hardwick warbirds site link too, Yak-11 fan, not sure of the relevance, but always admired Mr Hammonds skill, anyway!!- shame there’s nothing about his current P-51D project though!:)
No relevance to the Seafire, very relevant to me however….

is this the seafire in pacific fleet air arm livery?

Allegedly a jigging problem with the first of a number of restoration shops involved with the rebuild of this machine.

So, it was rebuilt, but they got it wrong???

I saw the dismantled fuselage in a Norfolk workshop circa four years ago.

Any idea how long ago, David?
If I can jump in with some info, the last news I had was back in 2004. At that time PP972’s various sections were in different parts of the country having rectification work done. I’ve no idea how far things have progressed since then.
There were quite a few problems with her first restoration, particularly with the wings which I think required a complete rebuild.
Thanks for the info on PR503, here’s hoping she’s on course for airworthiness in the not too distant future.

She was taken apart after that photograph and a rebuild started.

More Seafire news please!!
There’s a nice picture of Seafire 111 PP972 on the Vintage Fabrics website (with no date) apparently completed and having its engine run up- i seem to remember it was/is? with Wizzard Investments- does anyone out there know if it flew- or was it put straight into storage?- what a waste if thats the case! (hey, maybe i have a future in poetry!)
