Seafire on M11

Travelling southbound on the M11 this afternoon looked very much like the Seafire17 perhaps heading towards North Weald.

Ahhhh, Seafires, luverly…

A Seafire Mk XV was left in New Zealand after British carrier HMS Theseus visited in August 1947 and it was damaged in a landing accident. The FAA gave it to the RNZN, but it later went to the RNZAF Aircraft Finishing School (where painters were trained) at Hobsonville. It was ex-804 Sqn. Sadly it was broken up sometime after May 1952. I don’t know the identity. The RNZAF also scored a Firefly I (coded 294) the same way, but it isn’t known which ship it came from (HMS Venerable or Indefatigable have been suggested).

A few Seafire piccies of varying types…

the Kennet one is SX 336 and is registered as G-KASX, The one located in Colchester is a F.46 LA 546 but at present has no registration.

Getting back on topic – I know very little about Seafires, and in fact can only think of 3 at the best of times (PP792, VP441 and the one in Yeovilton)

Oh no, I’ve snuk into the ARCO area on a number of occasions, even had a cup of tea made for me (thank you very much). Besides which it’s men in white coats that tend to chase me about.
