Seahawk cockpits to the northwest ?

According to the new issue of ‘Flypast’, the two Seahawks held for spares recovery at Yeovilton, are having (had ?) there cockpits removed and are moving north.

Perhaps this is ‘wv838’s new project ? Can anyone comment further ?

All items are indeed safe to the best of my knowledge.

Hi,
Yes the cockpit’s are going to be removed from their fuselage’s, last I heard (please correct me if I am wrong) the rest of the airframe is going to be tin can fodder !!!!

There’s a Seahawk rotting away in Defford, Worcestershire. It’s been outside for years. It’s in company with an extremely rotten Vampire T11 and Meteor.

Dave – It was on the simpits.org mailing list. Roy mentioned that he had purchased a fuselage and wings for wv838. Whether this has any connection to the above, no idea.

Elsewhere Roy has mentioned that he has sourced a fuselage and wings for WV838’s cockpit.

Really ? Where ?

To quote the article….

” The noses are being seperated from the centre sections and moved to the north of the UK for restoration. The fuselages are being placed into temporary storage on private land in the Somerset area to await the same treatment

….as reported by this forums very own Lee Howard.

I read that to mean the fuselages are also heading north later to be rejoined after cockpits are restored (i’m sure theres a logistical reason somewhere in that 😮 )

OR…. they’ll stay in Somerset for restoration (think: why keep 2x noseless fuselages ?)

Lee, Roy….. any comments ?

If the claims prove to be true it shows that in many ways there is still in some quarters a disregard to our aviation heritage. The airframes certainly look savable (is that a real word) from the picture provided.

I offered them £3k for one of those Seahawks (in 2000), and to crane it out of the compound myself after removing all items that might be needed to support the flyer; I’m sure they’ve done better than that.
