Been trying to find a site that has the news posted but here is what has come out.
The RAN Seaking (Shark 02) that crashed on Nias island as a result of a call for aid from the indonesian governement crashed due to two major reasons that they can find:
1. that engine failure was certainly a cause, the helo having not enough down time for engine checks to have been carried out especially after having completed so many flying hours helping out with the Tsunami efforts.
2. There is direct evidence that the helo was over loaded and the resulting weight attributed in the engine failure.
As a result of the crash Rear Admiral Moffat has susspended all Seaking ops indefinatly. He said that he sees no reason for any of the choppers to fly since there is nothing that requires their abilities.
With this grounding there is speculation now that the MRH-90 Naval will be aquired in a hurry as the requirement of the Air 9000 competition clearly stated that this helo was to replace the Seaking. Trying to get comments on this issue is like trying to talk to god.
