One of the aviation books of my childhood – now long gone, likely a book translated to danish from a more widely spread language – contained a picture of a WW I pilot, that I would like to find.
The text under the picture said something like – “WW I pilots were tough guys!” – and he really looked the part.
As I remember the pic, he was standing in front of a plane, feet widely splayed, hands on hips, wearing breeches, shirtsleeves rolled up, leather helmet and a very grim look.
Face a little like a Telly Savalas in a very bad mood….
The book MIGHT have been a danish translation of “The American Heritage history of flight” by Arthur Gordon….but I am not sure.
Can anybody guess what pic I am thinking – and possibly provide a link to a scan?
Regards
Jon
