Seasick air traffic controllers at Arlanda.

A Norwegian newspaper reports today about the ATC’s in the new tower at Arlanda airport. The tower is swinging back and forth quite a lot during windy conditions. The reason is that they havent installed stabilizers yet bechause they need to measure the movements to know where exactly to put them.

Looks good though!

yes…it’s a similar principle to wing bending – if it didn’t flex it would snap!

yes..otherwise wind-tunnels are creates which out pressure on the buildings and weaken the base.

all tall buildings are designed to shake in the wind, i have heard this before, it is to do with the construction of the building.

Quite a few buildings shake a bit, only one I experienced was at the top of the World Trade Tower, but you only felt it if you thought about it. (which I was quite a lot as I’m not best with heights!). Must be safe though else you wouldn’t be allowed anywhere near it, must be some sort of very technical reason for it.

Silly question, but if it’s blowing in the wind, regardless of how much it is actually moving, is it safe to be inside it? It could snap at any time!
