Border guards and customs agents in the Russian Far East seized a package of classified military documents and aircraft parts on a train headed for China on Monday, Russian officials said.

The package contained documents related to Russian military aircraft as well as several aircraft parts, the State Customs Committee said in a statement. It was found in the locomotive car of the train when the train stopped in the Russian village of Pogranichny, the committee said.

It was not immediately clear where the package came from. Russian law enforcement agencies were investigating the incident, the committee said.

There are two major military aircraft plants in the Russian Far East. One, in Komsomolsk-on- Amur, produces Sukhoi-27 fighter jets, and the other, in Arseniev, produces Russia’s latest combat helicopter, the Kamov-50.

Russian security officials have said that a court had recently convicted a Russian man for collecting secret information about the Komsomolsk-on-Amur plant for an unspecified “Asian- Pacific” country.
