Sorry i meant ive taken laptop in its bag and another small bag (very small) through DUB BHD and LHR T1 since the begining of the year. Ive also used STN and CDG and done the same since the begining of February.

Since November, I have flown out of Heathrow three times carrying a laptop.
Like OneLeft has said, your laptop should be placed inside your one piece of hand baggage. The crazy thing is, upon reaching security, you need to present your laptop separate to the bag you are carrying.

I have taken a laptop and rucksack type small bag through LHR T1, DUB and BHD within the last month. Flights were with bmi.

As I have said in similar threads the rules really are no longer about what the airlines say you can take on board, more what the government say you can carry through the security check.
Strictly speaking the laptop has to go inside the one piece of handluggage, as only one piece is allowed to pass through security at any uk airport.
Once you have passed through security you can take it out again as long as your airline allows 2 pieces of handluggage (the laptop being the second) per person in the cabin you are travelling in.
I have to say each airport, and indeed terminal, seems to have it’s own level of adherance to this rule. From my experience MAN are very strict with the rules, LHR T1 less so, particularily at Flight Connections Centre where anything seems to be acceptable, while LHR T4 and LGW are positively anal about imposing the rules.
