Seek info on F-111 E Problems ca 1972 crash

My father, Floyd B Sweet was killed Jan 18, 1972 near RAF Leuchars, Scotland out of RAF Upper Heyford, England in F-111E 0018, attributed to failure to configure the wings to landing position and the plane stalled into a hill on the base leg of landing AFTER a high altitude training run (OR it was the ground terrain radar failed, 2 different reports . )

I have found some info that AU has had problems with freezing components.
Anyone know any more about this or any other pertinent info an the plane’s shortcomings?

I’m aware of the top Googled F-111 memorial site and of the Carlo Kopp writings.

btw my dad went from Starfighters at Luke, Arizona 65- 66 to Thailand then transferred to UK and the Aardavark. Any one know him?

Thanks
Christy Sweet

Hi Christy

You should also try the ‘Military Aircrew’ section of www.pprune.org there are a lot of very knowledgeable people over there.

Good luck
Paul
