Seeking movement card for DH1 Chipmunk WD377

Hi, I have been restoring the cockpit of WD377 (ex Millom) and whilst there is a bit on the web about its last days with No. 12 Air Experience Flight in 1966 and its unfortunate crash! there is nothing about the years before this incident, I am wondering if it served with any other units before this time? Also any photos much appreciated!!

RAFM will usually provide a movement card by return email.

Hope this helps and saves a rushed visit!

Indeed they do. Received a very nice e-mail from them with a scan of the movement card of WZ795 from them when I was compiling the aircraft history for the maintenance files during the restoration we did.

Not yet, time is my biggest problem, point noted and when I can follow through with a visit (without the 5 year old!) I will e-mail in advance and see what they have on WD377. If anyone finds themselves up at the RAFM with a spare moment please give me a shout!!

Did you have any luck with the RAF Museum?

Photo of WD377

Try “Chipmunk – the first fifty years” by Fisher, Brown & Rothermel, published by Air Britain, 1996, ISBN 0851302459

WD377 entry is on page 24, includes photo taken at Turnhouse in 1964 – only have a poor photocopy I’m afraid, but PM me your address (my study is a tip as usual, so don’t have it to hand) & I will post it to you.

Sadly that runway ihas not been in use for many years as it points directly to the car park and Control Tower. It was good place to take photos from.

Yeah – shame – always looked great with the airfield lights on at dusk etc

Yes lovely photo – brings back memories of going past the airfield on the train when I was a kid : )

Superb photo I like the school boys looking on in the background. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the link and taking the time to look this up. Answers many of my questions.

Hi Dave, Thanks for the link, some useful info on there that I had not seen before – while WD377 was with Home Command Exam Unit, any idea where this was stationed at that time?

Sabrejet – no I have not tried that yet, to be honest I did not think a Chippie movement card would be archived but may be I am completely wrong – I know Ross on here often comes up with movement cards but mainly on WW2 types.

Definitely the place!
