Seeking Vendor of Old…

Greetings All,

The recent FL/Dux discussion has jogged an old memory. Back in the late ’90s and early ’00s, there was a chap who regularly operated a stall at Legends who sold ‘safed’ (deactivated) ammunition. I recall that he sold other various paraphernalia, as well, but quite a bit of this ammo.

Would anyone happen to recall who this vendor might have been? Even better, would anyone know if he is still in business, or can be contacted?

I know this is a bit clutching at straws, but the collective memory of this forum is often quite remarkable! Thanks.

No. I didn’t think it was him – There were only a very few rounds- mostly selling patches, badges , a few books….but just coincidental!

If the stall was selling predominately deactivated ammunition I’d say it probably wasn’t John Manning who predominantly sells (some very nice) small polished-up relics from crashed aircraft and also aircraft instruments.

Coincidentally , at the Torbay Steam Fair today , there was a chap with a stall selling militaria(badges, patches , tin hats etc) who had an amount ,30-40 rounds maybe, of what looked like disassembled .5 cannon rounds for sale.I never took a lot of notice I’m sorry to say – so can’t tell you who he was.

If the stall had plenty of polished metal and artefacts then it would be JOhn Manning, nice bloke.

I bought stuff off the same stall at Biggin Hill. I think the name was Brigadoon Foundry. I tried google but no luck but given the way things are now in respect of that sort of thing they’ve probably stopped selling it.

Whoever it was it wasn’t John Manning, I know him well.

Sounds a lot like John Manning – thinnish bloke, dark hair.

Honestly, Andy, I have not a clue. It might well be. I attempted a google on Mr Manning, as you indicate, but not much luck there.

I remember him, but can’t give you a name. I bought quite a bit of inert ammo and magazines/ clips for my deactivated ww2 gun collection at a DX event in 2002 from him. His stuff was really good value compared to some at the time. Inert ammo and associated items can be found in abundance from many internet militaria vendors if that is what you’re after. Try specialist auctions, loads of stuff on there.

Are you thinking of John Manning of Aviation Artefacts?
