Seems a like a rash of new orders for Boeing

Hainan signs MOU for B787s and B777s

Air China signs for 5 B747-8i

Nice to see some 747-8i customers. Seems like that orange roll out livery was a smart move (There is no tongue in cheek smiley!)
Also, customers are starting to receive revised delivery dates for 787s. With the new orders, I think Boeing have finally cracked the shell of bad luck surrounding the 787.

The BA T7-300ERs are in lieu of the b787, as we were told sweeteners to keep the BA 787 orders

Cathay has added a few 777 orders it seems.

From the top of my head 9 777s along with over 10 A330s.

My point was that where possible, it would be nice to see a British airline buying European products just as the major US carriers seem to support Boeing primarily.

Not really, US, United and Delta, all have substantial Airbus fleets.
Then of course you have JetBlue, Virgin America, Spirit and a host of smaller airlines.

AA is the only major airline that doesn’t have Airbus aicraft in its fleet (although they did operate A300s though), in part because they absorbed TWA in 2002 and have had enough planes. All they’ve done is order a smattering of 737s and 777s to boost their fleet size as and when needed.

My point was that where possible, it would be nice to see a British airline buying European products just as the major US carriers seem to support Boeing primarily. To point out that Airbus aircraft carry many American parts is correct, but the public would not identify Airbuses as partly American aircraft any more than they would identify a VW Golf – manufactured in South Africa – as a South African rather than a German car.
And, to suggest that my sentiments are ‘xenophobic’, as someone has above, is a rather inaccurate.

You do realise there is a great deal of European product in Boeing aircraft?
There is also a good content of American and non EU product in Airbus aircraft.

Quite so.

A fact often overlooked in the A vs B fanboi fests that seem so common elsewhere. 🙂

Anyway, BA already are operating a large number of Airbus aircraft.

Cathay Pacific order 15 A330s and 10 77Ws
Clicky
My source tells me the 14 additional aircraft Cathay are 747-8is, CX are battering out the details of the deal.
He’s been wrong before though.

Aeroflot orders 8 Boeing 777s
6x 200ER, 2x 300ER

Orders coming in thick and fast!
It’s been a few years since the last 200ER was ordered.

From what I can tell, the A350 may be too big to replace the 767 Airbus are chasing the top end of the 787 market lower to mid 777 market.

If BA want a replacement their 767s, the 787 makes the most sense. It will also harmonise with their 777 fleet which they appear to be expanding with the 777-300ER that is a perfect replacement for the bulk of their 747 fleet.
Apparently pilots from the 777 will be able to fly the 787 after a quick conversion course.

The A350 will come in to play when BA decide to replace their 772ERs.
However, if Boeing offer a 777NG that will keep up and require negligable infrastructure changes BA might go for that.
As the 777-300ERs will still be pretty young when that time comes, it’s difficult to tell what way they will go.

However, buying Airbus just because they are European does not make sound financial sense if they have to take a payload/price penalty and is a touch xenophobic too.

I think BA are probably considering the A350 and not doubt that they will order the A320 NEO to replace the Boeing 737’s at Gatwick. (:

I suppose United, US Airways, Jet Blue, Virgin America and Delta should drop their Airbus aircraft forthwith and buy Boeing aicraft?

BA should (and do) buy what suits their needs or whatever gives them the best possible deal, regardless.

It would be nice to see BA support British and European jobs by ordering more Airbus aircraft.

I think Boeing must be getting closer to 787 deliveries, because a 787 finally showed up here in San Antonio for the mod work.

Notably it is the first customer to buy 747-8I first. Both previous 747-8I customers (LH and KE) had bought A380 first. But Air China does want A380, too:

Exactly how many B777 and how many B747 frames did Hainan order?

Zero 747s if the Reuters article is correct – it says 38 aircraft of which 6 777s and 32 787s – not much room for any 747s in that!

Says right in the article:

Boeing said the deal included six 777s, and 32 787s.
