Some original photographs from a pal who served as a fitter in the RAF at Seletar 1949 to ’51
Little bit of spotting for those who ‘know’.
More to follow if interested.

Anyone with links to Seletar may be interested to know that sadly the old RAF infrastructure may well disappear soon as the airfield becomes a hi-tech aircraft ‘technology park’.
The attached link is to an interesting short movie made by some of Seletar’s current residents:

(watch out for Vampires, Mosquitos and Spitfires about 3 minutes in!!) 😉

O.K.,
These are some more from the same place including the main base and the unloading port and shipping.
Good job the Japs weren’t having a go again !!

Many thanks for posting these vintage photos. Have checked out the Tempest II history – PR550 was used for stores trials by Hawker and A&AEE in 1948 and then shipped out to Seletar where it was in store from August 1949. It was eventually issued to 33 Squadron in March 1951 but was back in store by June of the same year. It was transferred to the Pakistani Air Force in 1952.
Looking forward to the rest. Thanks again.

Hi Mark,
Got one frontal Spit. with all the ‘chaps’, but still waiting for the next batch of ‘missing’ pics. Some good shots of unloading Meatboxes and Vamps onto lighters in the harbour +++.
Just one for you
