sending out a comp. SOS

I got me a computer problemo ladies and gents.

I spent a heap(ish) load of cash on 512meg of ram, to find that my graphics card has decided to throw its teddy out of the window.

the card will now not display any images when asked to load one game in particular(x-plane) and only 2D images when I load other game’s yet is fine in none game applications.

I have a 32meg Kyro/Hercules 3D Prophet 4000 XT card

any help anyone can offer would be superb(manufacturers dont appear to be entirely on the ball).

RE: sending out a comp. SOS

thanx very much guys, i have tried just about all of your suggestions nikumba, and I have checked that its seated right all along the strip. So I’m thinking its faulty in some way.

Another friend has suggested i take it back and swap it for two 256 meg strips, so I think I’m gonna do that!

thanx again

RE: sending out a comp. SOS

I’ll add one thing about the ram: check also this (it already happened to me):

Your ram may be correctly inserted (I assume its SDRAM), so, the two little white connectors on the side are correctly holding the RAM.
BUT check if the memory module is also inserted correctly in the middle of the slot, because, with new solts, someties, the motherboard bends itself, and the middle part’s contacts do not touch the MB connectors.

RE: sending out a comp. SOS

coanda,

Try these few things first:

1) Make sure new RAM is seated properly. Make sure clips are secured to the RAM

2) Take your current graphic card out and then put it back in to see if that helped.

3) If that did not work take the 512mb RAM out and put your old stuff back in and see if it works, if it does, your RAM is faulty

If after doing both above and your GFX card fails to work try the next following:

1) Try your GFX card in another PC, if it works then your AGP slot or motherboard maybe damaged.

2) If it does not work in another PC, you GFX could be dead, try another card in your PC to check. If the new one works old one is dead.

3) Buy a new one.

Hope this helps.
