Sergeant Bernard Charles Beard.

Sergeant Beard is interred in St. Nicholas Churchyard at Cottesmore. I am aware of the circumstances of his death. What I am looking for is a clear, head on photograph of his headstone. It is potentially for use in a publication or as part of a display. If anyone would be so kind as to provide such an image I would be most grateful and the photographer would be credited were the image used.

The war graves project is now linked on the CWGC web site, their aim is to provide photos of every grave in each & every part of the world. From what i know they are getting there !

Kev

The CWGC used to provide a service whereby they would supply a photo, although it might be a long wait until the next CWGC official visit to that cemetery. That said, I had heard that in this digital age the CWGC were building up a data base of photos of headstones – although I wonder if they are primarily outside of the UK and, perhaps, those they are often asked for (eg Gibson)

Worth asking perhaps, although hopefully someone will be able to help sooner than the CWGC might.

ericmunk.

Thanks for that. I’ve searched their site for others with no problem at all but for some unknown reason I kept getting no results for Sergeant Beard. I can only think I was typing it in wrong.

Thanks again.

Thanks both.

I am aware of the TWGPP and had already searched their database with no joy. Although, having only gone through a few of the names I need to check, they seem to have a significant number.

You are almost a year late Kev. Mrs Moggy and I were there for last year’s Remembrance Day.

Doesn’t help though, sorry.

Kev,

The War Graves Project may have photos of this grave. I am not sure what their attitude would be to providing one for a book , all photos are taken by volunteers & therefore they can provide photos to interested parties for a small fee.

Had a quick look & cant trace Sgt Beard, but it might be worth contacting them.
