“We have certain plans of organizing series production of Ka-62 helicopter in Ulan-Ude. We have already discussed them and have come to an agreement with chairman of the Buryatia Republic government Leonid Potapov,” said OPK Oboronprom general director Denis Manturov on Thursday, during the ceremony of signing of Agreement on cooperation in helicopter industry between united industrial corporation Oboronprom and Buryatia government.

According to Mr. Manturov, launching Ka-62 helicopter production on Ulan-Ude aviation plant will need $150 million of investment. “At the moment $60 million has already been invested into this program,” says Manturov.

First serial Ka-62 helicopter will be manufactured at Ulan-Ude aviation plant in two or three years. “By the year 2010 we are planning to reach production volume of 30-40 helicopters a year,” reported Mr. Manturov.

He also mentioned that recently OPK Oboronprom has acquired majoring shareholding in Kamov company, and thus it now incorporates developers and manufacturers of both “Mi” and “Ka” helicopters.

“Now we can plan all the manufacturing activities and loading of the plants in accordance with the data about all helicopters produced in Russia. Moreover, Ulan-Ude aviation plant used to produce Kamov aircraft once, and that is why we can say that some part of the future exists in the past,” remarked Mr. Manturov.

Ka-62 multi-purpose helicopter is intended for passenger and cargo transportation in transport cabin as well for bulky cargo transportation on the external sling. The helicopter crew may include, depending on the aircraft modification, one or two men. The helicopter can accommodate up to 16 passengers. Normal take-off weight amounts to 6,000 kg. Maximum weight of the cargo transported in the transportation cabin equals 2,000 kg, on the external sling 2,500 kg.

Ka-62 helicopter is powered by two RD-600V engines, 1300 hp each. Maximum level-flight speed equals 300 km/h, cruise speed 270 km/h. Static ceiling amounts to 3,000 m and dynamic ceiling 5,500 m. Operational range equals 780 km, ferry range (with additional fuel tanks) 1,065 km.
