Right, a couple of fundamental questions,
1. Do any women ever vist this site regularly?
2. What is it about blokes and planes – I, as with everybody else here, like reading books and magazines that have lots of pictures of planes in them. It gives me great satifisfaction to stare at pictures of planes. I must admit this is actually a bit weird, but what the hell…
What’s going on?

I have no real interest in flying. My main interest is with History and in Technology.
It tickles my fancy that in the span of one human lifetime we went from the first fixed wing controlled flight to man setting boot on the Moon… the first guy to fly an airplane could have actually met and known the first man to step on the Moon… crazy.
This is also the reason I like the comparisons in the Air Int mags of comparable aircraft types from different time periods.
My sister in laws father couldn’t believe the cost of flying here.. which are helped of course by the exchange rate and he was considering retiring here… to which my brother (his son-in-law) replied… “Just what we need.. another bloody pom!”.

Ashley,
Glad to hear you are young! You and I are the few out there. Seriously. Not writing you off at all!!!
I have one friend out here my age with same plane as mine. So, not by choice, not too many young chicks flying out here. Hard to come by. And my other female friends, they don’t like flying at all. Leaves you with little options when it comes to aircrafts.
Cheers! :p

Flylady…old enough to be your mom or grandmother? Ha! I don’t think so! I’m 23 for a start and I’m pretty sure that none of the other female members are much older than in their early 30s…Please don’t be so quick to write us off…the female members are here because we are aviation enthusiasts and in my opinion, the fact we are women doesn’t come into it…we are here to talk about aircraft, not lip gloss…I for one have never made a point of being a woman here – in fact it was quite a time before some members realised I was! I’m here because I enjoy aircraft, and hope that as an employee of one of the UK’s largest aviation museums I can offer something back to the board…the women here don’t hang round the board in “packs” but we don’t avoid each other in preference of the men either! I like “hanging out” with my friends here regardless of their gender…I’m not going to get snooty because some happen to be female…
Just my opinion…:)

I say chaps!
Don’t you think this thread is getting a bit smutty?
All this talk of the old ‘Saturday Night Duty’ stuff will be getting the young chaps inflamed. Far to much concentration on the gusset region in my opinion.
Hurumph!

I suggest you just do it. Ask for forgiveness later. Don’t ask for permission. Here’s an idea, give it (plane) to your wife as a gift. She will learn to like it. If she likes shoppping, plan a trip that the final destination is shopping. Bite the bullet (I am one of the few that hates shopping) just like shopping for planes, parts, Garmin 530, decals, blah, blah, blah. Live baby, live! You would not want to get old and regret you didn’t do it. Focus on it! because when you focus, have a dream and a mission, everything seems possible. EVERYTHING!

Thanks for the tip Flylady unfortunately there are a few mitigating issues like a large mortgage and at the moment very little time to do such a project.

Hadros,
Man!!!! You are wild. And yes, ladies like that stuff too unless you preferr sex by yourself. :p
You need to join the mile high club mister!
LOL!
Oh boy … what did we get into here!?
By: FLYLADY - 9th April 2003 at 08:49
Tempest,
Well, as you can see, there is a few of us who like this sort of stuff. I like getting my long finger nails full of grease and don’t mind digging in the engine stuff. Like duct tape too. Even like jumping out of perfect airplanes too!
Both my offices are decorated with airplanes. I wear airplane earrings, subscribe to too many aviation magazines, I’m on several aviation WebBoards / Forums and member to three aviation associations. Currently flyout chairperson for one.
Don’t belong to the group 99’s here, because most are old enough to be my mom or grandmother. Besides, I like hanging out with the guys. No offense to anyone.
Lucky for me … at the moment, I am experiencing a new Lycoming TO-360. And, when I walk in the shop and start squeaking, all the A&P’s come out to see my excitement. They tell me, for years, they don’t see a lady walking in high sexy high heels and a suit and jumping up and down when she sees a new engine, with brand new valves, new hoses, new carburater, new turbo charge, new baffling, new fuel pump, new ….. well, get my point. I like this stuff A LOT!
And for EN830 …

Comet…I think Moggy was joking…if I thought he was serious the handbag would be shoved so hard where the sun don’t shine that it would never see the light of day ever again 😉

Mr FF likes having a flying wife….
he can share the flying in the same way he shares the driving; he flies out, drinks beer and I fly back!
He also gets to buy all sorts of new toys without me moaning.

And when did you last see a decent illuminated make-up mirror behind the sun vizor of any of Mr Piper or Mr Cessna’s products?
No, far better we encourage them to wait on the ground for us intrepid Sky-Gods, cooking, cleaning and doing all the stuff they are so good at.

Whaddidisay?
Any man who treated me with such little respect would do his own cooking, his own cleaning, his own washing up (if indeed he is capable), and why are men such lousy drivers?????
And to you who did not know who Jean Batten was, she was a famous New Zealand FEMALE pilot, Pauline Gower was one of the leading pilots of the ATA (Air Transport Auxiliary for all you ultra-knowledgable men out there), Sheila Scott was one of those record breaking pilots – first pilot to circumnavigate the globe single handedly – and you men claim to know all their is to know about aviation – don’t make me laugh!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was lucky enough to have a father who included me in all the fun (he didn’t actually fly) when cars, boats, motorcycles or aircraft were involved. I love them all!
At school, when I said I wanted to be a pilot, I was told to go away and think of something sensible. Well Yah-Boo! I got there anyway.
I make a point of taking other women flying and letting them have a go. Most of them love it every bit as much as the guys – it’s just that nobody ever offers…….
