Can anyone provide more details regarding this casualty?
Name: REGAN, HENRY LAWRENCE
Initials: H L
Nationality: United Kingdom
Rank: Sergeant
Regiment/Service: Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve
Age: 20
Date of Death: 06/04/1944
Service No: 1512170
Additional information: Son of William Henry and Anne Veronica Regan, of Heywood, Lancashire.
Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead
Grave/Memorial Reference: Panel 236.
Memorial: RUNNYMEDE MEMORIAL
As no Squadron attribution, I assume it might be an OTU loss?
These are the only 3 RAF casualties on Runnymede:-
001 GATELEY BB 55106 – 06/04/1944 ROYAL AIR FORCE VOLUNTEER RESERVE
002 REGAN HL 1512170 – 06/04/1944 ROYAL AIR FORCE VOLUNTEER RESERVE
003 SIMON DJ 131151 – 06/04/1944 ROYAL AIR FORCE VOLUNTEER RESERVE
Is that a connection?
Thanks in advance

Mmmm. Confusing.
If those Canadians are on the Runnymede Memorial for those missing whilst operating from the United Kingdom and North and Western Europe it adds to the confusion as at the time in question, 162 Squadron was operating from LG91 in North Africa. It seems that at that time they were operating both Baltimores and minesweeping Wellingtons.

It’s sometimes the absence of easy answers that provides clues for where else to look.
The Air Forces Memorial at Runnymede commemorates by name over 20,000 airmen who were lost in the Second World War during operations from bases in the United Kingdom and North and Western Europe, and who have no known graves. They served in Bomber, Fighter, Coastal, Transport, Flying Training and Maintenance Commands, and came from all parts of the Commonwealth.
The only other casualties I found for that date on Runnymede were 2 from 162 Squadron.
Could that be a clue?
001 BANNING JEV J/28388 162 SQDN 06/04/1944 ROYAL CANADIAN AIR FORCE
002 RANKINE JRM J/9140 162 SQDN 06/04/1944 ROYAL CANADIAN AIR FORCE
Could they have been special equipment operatives, assigned to 162?
Something for our resident experts to solve!!

Kevin.
That’s interesting. Nothing in FCL, BCL or the HCU or OTU losses, nothing in Without Anger either so maybe Coastal Command? Middle East and Italy?
Gateley was promoted to P/O from Corporal on 20/2/43 and to F/O on 26/8/42.
Simon was promoted from Sgt to P/O on 10/7/42 and to F/O 10/1/43.
Doesn’t really help much does it?
