Hi
I am looking for a front (LH Rotation) blade for a Shackleton propeller type DF171 or 172 please, if anyone knows the whereabouts of one.
They are usually black with red / white stripes.
Cheers

Cyfler; Pete did complete the set eventually.
To answer your question of value; single blade £150-£250 area.

I wouldn’t suggest throwing it, and it’ll be worth hanging onto as the blade mould got cut up years ago – so what there is, is all there is! Sooner or later someone will have two good blades and need a third. I know my family and friends at Coventry have two odd blades but I can’t remember if they’re front or back.

Thats all I have unfortunately. On its own it is good as a deco, or whatever. I am not going to throw it away just because it is on its own. I like it, and am well pleased with it, but comes a time when finance is needed for other things and sacrifices have to be made. A Griffon piston is in consideration also, a Merlin piston is the only one I will hang on to. WL757 is the only one I can associate it to, even if it did go through a few other marriages !

And as you say, that’s for a set. A single blade on its own isn’t much use to anyone, as even for ground running you need more than one!

I think Fournier Boy means in terms of being put to its original use rather than displayed.
Given the blade life your prop probably went through a number of Shackletons before ending its life on WL757! In terms of value the last matched set of three I saw that had paperwork went for £1500, and there were a couple of sets sold recently when Bill Richards’ estate was disposed of that went for similar money.

it’s just a paperweight really
We obviously have a differrent definition of what is a paperweight. It may not be a classic wooden, that is in a different class and cannot compare, but it looked great standing on its hub in my living room. My ‘paperweight’ is from WL757.

Just out of curiosity, any chance the RAF (or RAFM) or SAAF would have any in stores?

Not very much for just one, it’s just a paperweight really, and doesn’t have the desire ability of wooden props which you can hang on the wall.

Ah, one yes, six no ! You are going to be lucky to find six together. What do you think is the going rate nowadays for each ?

Ah that’s a shame, need a set of six

Hi Fournier, yes just the one. Its in good condition, black with the red/ white tips, complete, and from a specific aircraft. In fact, probably one of the last operational AEW 2’s.

Is it just the one blade you have?

I know this is a long time ago, but I was wondering if you ever found a front prop blade for Shackleton ? I have one I am considering selling. What are they fetching nowadays ?

It`s all gone Pete Tong!
I have just realised that I have a rear hub with a set of front blades.
So what I actually require is a set of rear, ie Right hand / or ACW rotation blades.
…If I don`t lose the will to live first!

Shack prop
About ten years ago there was a complete shack prop (not known whether it was front or rear, though I have a photo of it somewhere) at Bruntingthorpe, stashed away on one of the dispersals. It was mounted vertically on a stand.
It was further up from Nev’s pan as I had overshot looking for Nev’s place and found the prop lurking at the edge of the trees. You may know more about this, Ritch?
Anon.

Checked two spare blades we have in the shed. Both are back blades.
I had an e-mail a while back from a gent wanting to dispose of a complete front prop assembly, but its on my work computer. I’ll try and find it on monday and forward his details on.
Regards,
Rich

After inspection of the Shakleton prop today, I can confirm it is the one toy are after. Unfortunately it has been cut at the base rendering it a display item only – Sorry!
Oh well, thanks for looking Phil.
