Along with the latest update on VP441, there was a request from Ezells for info on Shack props. I have no knowledge of this subject and am hoping that someone out might be able to answer the query.
Shack props have about a foot difference between the front and rear propellers. I have heard that they were the same diameters initially, but there were several occasions of aircraft returning with tips of the rear propellers missing. Very scienfically, the rear props were but slightly below where they were breaking off. Wonder if anyone on your board can confirm this story. One of our contacts who has worked with Griffons in the past supplied that bit of info. We cut the diameter of these props according to the stock Seafire dimensions: 10′ 6″ on the front and 10′ 2″ on the rear.
Over to you, guys.

The rear props were “cropped” to eliminate a problem with vibration.
The original props were of the same diameter and this caused a resonance which in turn was the source of the vibration. Each rear blade is only a copule of inches shorter than the front. I can’t find the specific data at the moment, but I can look at the manual in a next time I go to the museum, if you’re interested!PM
Peter,
Thanks. If you are able to come up with more detailed info it would be appreciated.

Laurie.
