I was told yesterday that the Avro Shackleton currently at Bruntingthorpe (which I assume is the ex-Gatwick one) is going to move to the Heritage Centre at Woodford.
Can anyone validate this story and add any more, please?
Many thanks,
Andy

….it looks like XM603 is under a temporary poly-tunnel arrangement. Is it getting a repaint or a clean-up?
It has had a clean up and is about to get some surface repair and treatment followed by a repaint (all with the assistance of VTST).

Had a look on Flickr and it looks like XM603 is under a temporary poly-tunnel arrangement. Is it getting a repaint or a clean-up? Will it be moved indoors as part of the heritage centre plans? I wish there were more white Vulcans, but clearly it isn’t a good finish for those kept outdoors.

I have been of the web for a couple of months, what has happened to the St Mawgan shack?
Being restored! You can follow progress on Facebook on their page ‘Rosalie, The Shackleton’. They found some heavy corrosion early on, but they are ploughing on.

The same question has been asked on the Bruntingthorpe Facebook page and I’ve quoted the reply below
“I can categorically confirm that she is not going anywhere. I’ve no idea where this rumour keeps surfacing from! We are working hard to rebuild her so we can work on her and get her looking good again.”

So this has me puzzled…..Woodford is potentially looking to restore the Bruntingthorpe example while the MOSI complete example is looking for a new home in the near future? The RAFM has already said they now have a policy of loaning aircraft. Is the Woodford plan to put a Shackleton under cover?

Was also at Woodford at the weekend and heard the very same thing… definitely the Bruntingthorpe example… apparently they are also interested in Manchester’s 707…

Or Duxford? Nothing much seems to have been done to it since it was moved to hangar 5 and now the Victor has got the go-ahead it must have moved a long way down the queue for restoration.

Interesting. I was told this by a friend who visited Woodford a couple of days ago. He was talking to one of the active volunteers, and mentioned that he had heard that a Shackleton was coming to Woodford and asked if it was the one currently at MOSI. The reply was “No, it’s coming from Bruntingthorpe.”
Hence my question.

I spoke to the crew on Sunday during the open day and they never mentioned this, the impression I got was slowly slowly it will go back to some sort of display condition. But then again they are personally not the owners of this bird so may not have been privy to negotiations with other third parties.
