Shackleton video found in charity shop, anyone heard of it??

Hi all, I found this vhs tape in a local charity shop this afternoon, cost me £1!!
As you can see by the attched photo, it’s called ‘Shackleton…end of an era’.
It was produced by Stanley Hitchcock Films, anyone heard of them or this video?
Incidentally, the colour picture on the sleeve is an ACTUAL photograph, it’s not printed on the sleeve, it’s stuck to it. This, and the general appearance of the sleeve & tape, would lead me to believe it could well be an ‘amateur’ production.
Anyone have any thoughts?

After a weekend of digging around, I found both the video and the tv series on video, and a little bit more research also realised it was WL798 that was scrapped at Lossie in early 1991, and not 801 which went back to 2 SoTT at Cosford after 8 finished with it. It even had a spell with the Aerospace museum, before 2 SoTT got it back and it was disposed of.

Scrapped MR.2C

Tim
The programme was Perpetual Motion, although it wasn’t WL801 that was scrapped, it was WL798 ‘Z’ that was carved up.

Evening John, and All

The Programme the Beeb did was in 1991? and called Perpetual motion if I recall, (my spelling and memory may have gone pair shaped) but it showed them scrapping the last MR.2C they had for spares (WL801 IIRC).

Yes I have a video taken when it appeared on TV. Not sure but I think it features 8 Squadron at either Lossie or Honington, it is a while since I last saw it. Seem to recall that the camera is positioned at the end of the runway when an AEW2 is taking off with a lot of sideslip.

I’ve got this video and the cover is nothing like the one at the top of the page. It’s one of my favourite videos, but it guts me to see that one burn at the end for fire practice.

SHACKLETON… END OF AN ERA. SHACKLETON The History of the Lancaster

That is what my copy of the video by Stanley Hitchcock is called. A La Mancha Production of 1987 and distributed by GMH Entertainments in 1987. The main picture on the cover is of possibly a PROTOTYPE SHACKLE -BOMBER taken in B & W with a smaller colour photo of an AEW 2 taken from the BBMF LANCASTER! After 20 years is still a valuable member of my collection.

Ive got a copy at home with a diff cover.

It was also available I believe as a double tape with the history of the Nimrod which I believe also featured the AEW3 version which was floating around our skies at the time.

Anyway I remember the pic youve posted as being used in the adverts when in Flypast and the other aviation mags of the day.

Brilliant video though and nothing to worry about re the quality. A lot better than a lot of modern day efforts.

This was broadcast on tv years ago and I have it on a VHS tape some where!

You could have a bootleg, as I seem to recall seeing it advertised in the magazines a long time ago, with a different cover.

And the quality of the production seemed professional to me.

Cheers

The sleeve may be a home made replacement but the video is definitely professional as it’s listed on the BFI’s database.

A quick Google gives us the DVD on Amazon with the original sleeve;
