Due to aircraft issues Shaheen Air are withdrawing their Leeds service (possibly also Luton too?) from June 1st.

Hopefully they do indeed return…

Doesn’t seem to be any mention of such a ban on this E.U. list from last month.

Hi
PIA are to commence there twice weekly Dircet flights from Leeds/Bradford to Islamabad with an Airbus A310-300 aircraft by late next month or early July.
All Shaheen Air’s forward flight bookings have also been transfered over to the PIA new route or have been offered MAN flights througout June.
Correct me if I am wrong, but A310s and 747s of PIA have been banned from European skies ???

How were they doing @ LBA before they withdrew?
By: wawkrk - 26th May 2008 at 13:06
Yes you are right Grey Area.I should have checked.
I am looking at a very poor quality field length chart for all types using comparitive parrameters.
It is very difficult to read when I zoom in to the numbers.
So squinting at the chart again, A300-600,A310-300,777-200,767-200.
All seem to be similar.
I am sure EA mentioned the A330 when speaking to Airbus but this was about 8 years ago so maybe the plans were changed.

I have quoted this statement many times.
I was once went to a presentation at LBA .
The subject of PIA flights were mentioned.
Ed Anderson said the airport had consulted with Airbus who confirmed the the A330 would be able to reach Pakistan direct from LBA’s runways.
With what loads I dont know.
The Shaheen A310-300 has similar field performance to the A330-600 and the 777-200 I understand.
PIA do not operate the A330 and there is no such thing as an “A330-600”. Did you mean “A300-600″?
PIA do still own a number of A300s but these are in storage and are, in any case, not -600 models.

Hopefuly they will use a 777-200.
But im guessing an A310 like Shaheen Air.
Don’t rule out the possibility of PIA using coaches to MAN…… :diablo:

I believe they were using an A310 on the Leeds route?
By: steve rowell - 18th May 2008 at 08:48
They were using a fleet of old 732’s according to their Website

Tommy has been quiet, does he know the answer or not?:D
As RenFrew suggested, aircraft availability is probably the problem. They were using Turkish registered aircraft and under Pakistan rules, these had to be transferred to the Pakistan register within 90 days of start of operation. They haven’t, so the service stops and presumably they have not been able to obtain other aircraft with the summer season looming.

They are a Pakistan based alternative to PIA. I guess these fleet problems will put paid to the rumour of a Glasgow service then…
