Share your airline (unpleasant) experiences

I know there was a topic like this before and it was fun but I’m sure a lot more people have something to say. Here’s mine:

Ofcourse,it happened on the world’s worst airline – Air India and I had to bear the torture of travelling(my first and last time)economy class that too :'(.First of all,as soon as entered,it smelt of fish!Once settled down,it was subject to intense staring at by some b!tch who kept doing it for nearly half the flight.Within 20 minutes, everyone was drunk! One guy wanted to mix the drinks and when the air-hostess refused to do so at this altitude,he started pushing for a fight and several officers were needed to calm him down.By this time, there were 2 huge lines of drunks waiting to go to the bathroom.Even after this, many of them refused to sit down making it seem as though the a/c was going to be hijacked. You don’t get proper headphones – only a steathescope like thingy made of cheap plastic! The seats were dirty and stained! The miserable flight finally ended with an episode of THE FLINSTONES!

RE: Share your airline (unpleasant) experiences

The worst airline?
No one ever heard about Syrian Airlines?
How many examples do you want?

This airline does not provide C/J (business class).
Alas, you squeeze yourself into economy, what used to be very interesting in the good old days the were using a TU134 from DOH-DAM.
Or even better, a B727, msn #00001 or #00002.

However, when checking in with lets say 35Kg of dirty laundry they always tried to charge you for 15Kg overweight, even when your ticket mentions C/J as fare bases and ‘allow 30Kgs’
Sir, this is economy and we allow only 20Kg. No, not true, look at the ticket….. Yes, that is printed, but wrong since we only have……..
Usually, when the queue was about 30 people, they accepted you.

While on board, the started to throw small boxes with a carrot, a cucumber and a brick-pack orange juice at you.

My travelagent modified my CLIP (Client profile) while adding:
Flights with a RB-prefix must be considered as non-existing.

Today they are replacing their museum pieces for A320’s, however I still no not trust them!

RE: Share your airline (unpleasant) experiences

Funnily enough, it was a delay on a flight to Corfu in 1993/4! The Ambassador 757 we were supposed to board at Newcastle, UK was supposedly stranded in Corfu becuase of freak thunderstorms. Anyway, several slanging matches later the airline leased a Belgian aircraft (was a red DC-10-any ideas???) and 10 hours later we arrived at a very sunny airport – passing the Ambassador with an engine cowling missing as we taxied to our stand!

German charter airline Air Berlin. A319 in charter outfit with plastic seats. Sweating like hell, the food was awful and you really had no room at all to move your feets. This was really bad.

RE: Share your airline (unpleasant) experiences

Only on emergency situations are bad for me. Landing in SCQ in winter tends to be a bit bumpy and rough sometimes. So in winter plenty of aborted landings, fogs, rough touch downs, one wind sheer, one punchure on landings with racks opening…etc. Other moments: an aborted take off in Luton (B737-200, British Airtours), a big thunderstorm in Cuba flying an Antonov, a sandstorm in Assuam fying an Air Sinai B737-200 again. Taking off from Seville, a despresurization problem and landing again….new AEA B737-300 again (I really hate this plane) and being a child an stopped on fying from Lisbon to Brazil on a TAP B707. Nothing too spectacular.

RE: Nothing new there

I posted this one a couple of months ago

———————————————————————–
Hi comet,
I’ve flown with them (a short trip to London) 10 years ago. I was only 8 years old and I was alone, to visit my brother in Oxford. They took care of me very well (own stewardess etc for same price), but still they managed to lose me. Luckily my brother found me somwhere in Gatwick, trying to find a way out of that hellhole

I was to young to remember all the details, but they were very friendly and caring. That’s the most important thing. I was by that time already interrested in airplanes and we flew with a fokker 50, best experience ever. At least you know you’re flying, unlike the 747 and yhe A-340 (damn i’m gonna miss it )

We took off from Antwerp, so much easier than Zaventem. (only flew once from Antwerp). Checking-in really goes fast, and taking off is always an adventure (after removing goats and cows from the runway )

DAMN, i can’t believe they are our biggest airline now. Very nice one, but still, no sabena

Nothing new there

Air New Zealand has gone from good to bad to worse to just gone!
Back when I was in the navy, I had a g/f from NZ and she was trying to get back home to see her mothers wedding! THey ballsed up her flight. She got back to NZ alright, a week after the wedding 🙁

Coming back, they had her booked for the same flight as normal, which would have ment that she would have had 1 1/2 hours in NZ before coming home. Lucky for her she checked at the desk before leaving the airport in Auckland for the 3hr drive south to where she was going!

That’s not incompetance, that’s shear lunacy! No wonder they fell so hard!

RE: Share your airline (unpleasant) experiences

Only one candidate for me, Air New Zealand (I really hope some of their staff read this).
My bad experience started before I even reached the airport. We phoned up to reconfirm our reservations. The inept reservations staff had cancelled our flights, so we had to race round trying to get back on the passenger list. We were due to stop in Fiji, but thanks to the incompetents we missed that stop because we could not get back on the Fiji flight, so we ended up with a non-stop flight to Hawaii. On the Hawaii flight, I had the misfortune to share my seat with around 300 cigarette ends, as the aircraft had not been cleaned prior to being put in service. The seat in front of me literally dropped to bits. The cabin staff were rude, and service, when they could be bothered to provide it, was shoddy. The only Air New Zealand staff I have any respect for are the pilots, they are at least decent and know how to speak to the passengers.
Fly with proper Belgian airlines.

RE: Share your airline (unpleasant) experiences

Mine are all with that most loverble company – Airtours!

EMA-ACE – 6 hour delay
ACE-EMA – No delay but we had to stop in Nantes on the way back to re-fuel. Apparerently the MD-83 couldn’t take off from Lanzarote with a full load of fuel and as we had a little head wind, we wouldn’t make it back.

MAN-MLA – 11 hour delay. As we complained a lot more than others and stated quite clearly that we would not like to fly on a Air Atlanta Tristar, we were taken to a hotel and given a fee meal. We were the only ones there as the restaurant was actually closed, the service was good anyway. Eventually flew out on Britannia (on time).
Found out later that everyone else arrived about 3 hours after us.
MLA-MAN – ON TIME and no stop!

What I really hate is when they clearly lie to you. On the MAN-MLA flight we were continually told, delay 1 hour, 2 hours and repeadly told 3 hour delay. Now it turns out that the plane was stuck in Rhodes with a problem, how do they expect to get it back and get it serviced in 3 hours. Can’t they just tell the truth!

RE: Share your airline (unpleasant) experiences

I’ve never had a bad experience when lying but i guess when i travelled BA to Orlando would be the worst.First of all the food was tasteless and watery and the the toilets absolutely stank of urine,i really felt sorry for the people who sat oposite them as the smell was so bad it could smelt a couple of rows back! 🙁
Anyway it was not that bad compared to others!

RE: Share your airline (unpleasant) experiences

Well Ok then, you asked for it!
When I was going into the navy, we flew Qantas down to Melbourne, and the Hostess was very rude, and spilt food all over me, then tried to blame me for it so that she wouldn’t have to pay the dry cleaning, man did I sort her out! Needless to say the next time she was there again and she did it again, I think she must have had some severe problems }> Well she was fired after the flight ended! Aparently the reason for her dismissal was drug related! 😮
I then changed a/l, due to the fact that my home address was now my fathers and Ansett covered that route!

Now for the Ansett story!
When I was leaving the navy, I took my bag filled with my needs till the boxes arrived home from the base! I checked in and was told that I had to pay $50 for the bag, the woman claimed that it was over weight! I refused, quoting the navy’s liability not mine! She argued with me for half an hour till the manager came out to see what all the fuss was about! After explaining the full situation, the manager checked up and found that I wa right and that the woman was totally in the wrong, especially when it came to customer service! She was made to appologise to me and was taken out the back for a quick word!
I came past the check in a little later on (Due to her incompetance I missed my flight and had to wait for the next available seat, three hours away), she was at it again. This time the bag was smaller, but she said that it was too heavy, turns out that this woman was dogging the scales and pocketing the cash. Man I’ll never forget the look on her face as two commonwealth police officers asked her to follow them!

Now for the Best:
Aeropelican, yes the little one I’ve been plugging here.
I’ve flown them many times and they are soooo good, I find that service is better from smaller companies, what do you think? They seem to care alot more about there passengers!
