After a Red Sea cruise we spent four nights at the Sharks Bay Hilton in Sharm El Sheikh. Some of the rooms are very close to the airport. The room we stayed in had a balcony overlooking the pool area but more importantly outside the door was an outdoor corridor overlooking the runway. Needless to say the weather was perfect with no cloud seen at all during the stay. Sun is perfect from 7am til 10am then it’s fine until 12pm although you do get some heat haze. The light is then acceptable until 2pm. There is a small window of opportunity from around 4.30pm until sunset as the sun is not so strong and acceptable photos can be taken then. I was very surprised at the volume and variety of traffic especially Russian movements which probably accounted for a quarter of the traffic. Some of the photos are not of optimal quality due to heat haze and some backlit shots but this can’t be helped. Photos shown are reduced from the original size. Hope you enjoy them.
First up some regular European movements…

Groan, groan, overload, 😮 Super selection. Guess the Antonovs didn’t move if they were still there. 🙂
I didn’t see any Antonovs on the trip. I was gobsmacked at how much stuff I did see. I always research flightstats to see what stuff goes into an airport but I never realised it doesn’t show charter flights. I reckon the airport will be twice ass busy in next two years as there are massive hotels springing up everywhere and lots under construction.

Some very good pics. Really liked the Egyptair craft. It’s a great shame that they have done away with their Pharaohnic fleet names, Nefertari, Akhenaten etc.

I think that Transaero 747 is almost a daily flight! Thankfully it was high enough when it was flying over our hotel.
Hope you saw some An-72/74’s!:)

Great photos, why did you come home? 😀 Looks like shooting fish in a barrel.
You aint seen nothing yet !!! It’s just a shame the photo quality isn’t high due to the strong sun and heat haze.
